Question Weird spots in black print...

Looks like the pressure rollers are contaminated. Use a rag moistened with Eco solvent cleaning fluid to wipe and clean the rollers. If does not fix the problem, replace them.
Thanks henryp! I wiped them and took a good look at them and I agree... most of them look (and feel) contaminated. One side of most of them is sticky (how, I have no idea) and that sticky area is probably leaving something on the media disallowing the ink to adhere. Now all this makes perfect sense however, I still cannot explain why that doesn't happen with any other color!

So everybody, where do I get these pinch rollers for a Mutoh vj1324 for a decent price? I did a little searching and my eyes nearly popped out of my head! I think this machine uses 68 of those little things and it appears that might cost me well over $1200. Unfortunately I don't have that right now.

Many Thanks!

I would give isopropyl alcohol and swabs a shot. I always clean the head, wiper, and cap top with the solvent cleaner, but anything else gets 99% pure isopropyl, as it dries faster and is way less harsh.

Also, it's not a good idea to back up the print on the machine, especially a solid color like that. That could be part of the new stickiness. I'd definitely try cleaning them again before spending that much on new ones. I've had my own success using swabs and alcohols after a jam rolled a really rich panel back onto the wheels... it took a lot of swabs and some patience, but eventually all was good again.

Thanks Saturn! I tried alcohol initially and still had the issue. Unfortunately I went with the solvent cleaner next and perhaps not knowing how to properly do it, I think did more damage than good. So, as I think a couple people have mentioned on this forum, the culprit(s) appear to be the rollers! How they got contaminated, I have no idea. Perhaps a little too much silicone grease and it dripped down... certainly didn't appear that way... not really sure but as you can see the prints are a real mess now.

If anyone can point me in the direction to get more rollers at a reasonable price, I would truly truly appreciate it!

Busy, busy weekend so not much time to work on this... however, I did manage to purge the black ink line and change out the black cart... no printing though. Hopefully I can get to that tonight to see the results.

Thanks what the! I guess looking at those things will be the next step if the latest doesn't work!

Hey Manuel - Do you still have the issue or did you find a remedy? If so, what did you do to clear things up for you?

Thank you!
We run a humidifier 24/7 in the winter to keep it 35-40% humidity. We are running an old XC-540 and a Vg640 and it seems to have helped with a lot of the issues we having with our prints.

Awesome news... Thanks a lot Manuel!

Unfortunately for me, this might be the end. I really want to make this work but it's proving to be quite an expensive venture. While trying to figure out my issue, sound of the printhead going across the wiper started to sound weird and now my new printhead has started to spray ink below the print (see the attached pic). I'm afraid that somehow the head got damaged and I just don't have another 2k to buy another head.

You folks have been an amazing help but I'm afraid if this head is damaged, I'll have to bow out... for now. Many Thanks!
