What is causing these to fail?

CALTRANS signs for the carpool or HOV lanes. There are 6 of them all in a row, 3 east bound and 3 west bound on I-10 in Pomona CA. All the others before and after them are ok.

What might be causing this? These are not that old.

That looks very much like the last stage of calendered vinyl failure to me.
Maybe two of the signs were given to the lowest bidder to see what he could do......

agree. how many times have we seen a thread asking about using calendered vinyl so it looks like someone did

Looks to me like they were made with Ritrama vinyl!
