Sandblasting is the coating of a substrate such as wood, glass, metal or HDU (high density urethane) with a rubber "resist" material where no material is to be removed and the pressure blasting the exposed surface with sand or other abrasive material under high pressure to remove material. The result is a three dimensional effect that is often quite striking.
