here is the rough idea i came up with.... any suggestions would be appreciated.

Interesting, but not sure it conveys a diner feel. What does this diner serve? It's clever in an odd sort of way but doesn't seem like it fits the image I envision for a diner.

i like the contrast of the script diner against the cartoon whoo's?

are you guy's saying no script at all or just not this one?

oh and the place is like an old huddle house so it will have a red with blk and wht checker scheme.

they have a lighted sign on the building that is a long rectangle... so i was trying to make it fit that a little. and then have an alternate version for other things.

Darn it thought this was for a cabinet sign. Well here goes one more.

I like the latest one you posted and sign boys effect. I see your issue with the rectangular sign, but you posted this as a logo design and you should keep thinking of it as that. pretend they dont have the rectangular constraint, come up with a design and then work it into the existing sign box. thats just what i would do.
