why have I been using medium tack premask all these years?

I can't remember why I always buy medium tack pre mask, but had 20 detailed white vinyl decals come back as the graphics wont come off properly. I tried everything and thankfully it has the synthetic liner so I wet them all and removed the mask.

I will now use high tack pre mask on everything and wonder why I have been using medium all these years.

What do the rest of you keep in stock?

i use clear choice AT-60
don't usually have any problems.
sometimes with smaller letters it won't come off so easy but not too often. the biggest problem is with temperature, if i am doing an install and it's really hot out it curls like a son of a b@#%*. other than that pretty good stuff.
as far as application no issues there, works good

We stock PerfectTear Plus. It's only pennies more than the regular PerfectTear, but you get better transfer and far less wrinkles.

Only thing we use medium tack for is huge digital prints to prevent any stretching during install like on bus wraps.

That's pretty much right across the board with 3M!!

I've never been happy with off brand premask, and the 3M stuff has always worked well for us. (my dad has been using it exclusively for 20 years - if it ain't broke don't fix it!)

For the scps-55, it's made specifically to work with air-release liners (and works EVERY time). If you've ever tried using normal premask with air-release vinyl you know how annoying it is making it stick to the areas where the vinyl is weeded away.

I must admit I like the thickness of 3M's product but there are times when you have to latch 2 pieces together and 3M does not stick to itself very well as I have found out while applying on the side of a truck and it just let go of itself right in the middle of the install. Some choice screaming took place with a few squeegees flying around the shop!!!!:banghead:

I use 3M's for like 20 years now. 'Been struggling with few cheaper no-name brands in my early years until I decided I deserved a better, thicker transfert tape. No more annoying wrinkles... and in the ol' days I remember I almost fell down from a scaffold because when I was pulling off the transfert tape, it tore, leaving me out-of-balance and another time punching me right in the face, ruining my glasses. There's another one from MainTape called GXP-900 I think which work as the 3M.

'Never tried the 3M's 55 for air-release liners but one of my supplier (who also print for the trade) sent me 18ft long print n' cut designs covered with a clear premask that really bond hard on the liner. We had major tunneling issue with the first 20 kits but as soon as the prepared the graphics with this one, everything showed up perfect. 'Can't remember the brand but I bet it's TransfeRite stuff (they are distributor...)

one thing about that synthetic liner..the older the vinyl, the harder it is to get it off the liner, even with hi tack

Quit buggin' me
We use a mix of 3M and R-tape.
The one thing I don't like about 3M is the 3M logo they put on the back.
When you squeegee it with a hard block it tends to gum up on the edge of the squeegee and then smear onto the unmasked surface. If it sits long enough on white it can leave a nice blue 3M stain that takes some work to remove.

AM I IMAGINING THIS, OR DID I SEE NOBODY MENTION TRANSFER-RITE?

Transfer-Rite is all I've ever used, and always high tack
(except for clear tape I've used R-Tape)

Yeah we use Transfer-Rite medium tack for all gloss decals, and high tack only on matt.

We have some Oracal transfer tape that we use with Oracal matte films like the 8500 translucents and the 631 matte vinyl. Otherwise, for 90% of what we do, we use R-tape 4075RLA. We like it for almost all general purpose uses.

I tried using TCT's high tack and the same problem. Some graphics come off but most refuse to budge. I called ND to ask what to use and they said 3M scps-55. Special order and it will take 3 weeks for delivery. SERIOUSLY!! Even if I wait I have no guarantee it will work. I might just recut everything in regular 2ml and to hell with it. I have used this stuff for the last year or so and the odd time a letter here or there refuses to release with medium tack, but never like this.
