Will the chaos ever end?

I WAS going to ask how does one deal with the stresses of multiple jobs being juggled at the same time when they're all due pretty much the same day (seemingly) but this doesn't seem like the right group to ask.

I should've just stuck with part-time to pursue my illustration/art career when I finished college. now I'm in my last year of my 20's and feel like 4-5 years are slightly wasted on this kind of sh!t sandwich. lol

(I've been reading Big Magic : Creative Living Beyond Fear and references are used from there... not like it matters -_-)

Nope, just trying to divert all you knuckle heads (both sides) from your silly argument... Nothing political posted here will make a frog's f a r t of difference...
We got the worlds greatest sign makers all together in one spot and we're getting all worked up and wasting time on politics.

It's economics and as a 40 year sign craftsman who has worked his entire life under these economic circumstances of wage stagnation and tax policy that favors the top 1%, I think it's something we all should be concerned about or we commit our progeny to a life of less potential than even we've had to struggle through.

Am I misguided? The rich are always going to get richer...because the poor can't get any poorer. If you were making minimum wage or close to it, you can't go LOWER then that.... but you can always go HIGHER.

I think the lesson here Toad, start tipping your waitresses and waiters more... they really need it.

If your upset about noting having a wage increase, you can always just raise your prices. :)

We're not talking about me, I own my business and am doing just fine. We're talking about the collective working class who has been busting their butts and taking it in the shorts for the last 40 years. I've thrived IN SPITE of that because of having skills, a good work ethic and enthusiasm for what I do.

Every sector of the economy is intrinsically connected and has an effect on every other.

I tip 20% to everyone who lives off that kind of income. I'm about to prove it by buying myself and my beautiful wife a well earned pint for $5 each at our local brewery after an honest day's work and will leave $2 as a tip, just like I do a couple nights per week.

You tip 20% and your proud of that??? Dang... no wonder the working class isn't getting a raise. You eat lunch for $10 and leave $2? I thought the philosophy was share your wealth right? I see how it is, scream and defend the poor saying it's not fair, but only throw a few bucks for their work. Got it. Crystal Clear! Nightly night.

This whole thing has hardly anything to do with the OPs requests. It's just turned into another look at me.... look at me....... look at me situation. Only with a new person behind the wheel. Just another :thread

I guess history just keeps repeating itself, just like his words and wisdom.

Wages haven't kept up with inflation since the 1970s. Second, why should Toad or you or me or anyone else BESIDES AN EMPLOYER be required to help supplement someone else's income? Tipping is a stupid system built on racist ideologies and needs to go away.

Capitalism sucks, plain and simple. It benefits a small group of people that use their influence to trick a larger, dumber group of people into thinking it's the greatest thing since sliced bread. Unfortunately for us, we've got a moron in the White House is serving up our system of government to the Russians on a silver platter and Putin is going to eat our cookies. Say what you will about the guy, but he's definitely smarter than Trump and is outmaneuvering him left and right.

Russia is still bitter about losing the Cold War and Vlad is about to get his revenge, compliments of "the best business man in America".

Yes, you're probably misguided.

Another thread down the tubes...... and why ??

Basically, people who cannot hold their own private beliefs to themselves and feel the need to take every chance they can to bombard the masses with their views. No matter how right or wrong you, me or anyone else is...... why don't you keep the politics out of it ?? Are you just feeling the need to sling whatever crap you can at anyone regardless of whatever ??

The whole thing started with someone saying they were too busy for things and now it's turned into just another worthless slugfest of politics. Do you really think anyone cares how the other side feels or toots their horn ?? All I hear tooting is the beans y'all are eating. And they say cows are responsible for all the methane in the atmosphere. :omg:

So you don't think a 20% tip on top of a service worker's wage is adequate? I just got a haircut the other day which cost $20 and I tipped my stylist the usual $5. Am I suddenly back in the good graces of the only raging socialist down in Texas?

the working class on average isn't getting a raise because states like the one you live and work in oppose measures that would help workers organize and fight for better wages. Look in the mirror before you accuse someone else of not walking their talk. Whataboutism is the refuge of those without a valid argument.

Here in California service workers make the minimum wage of $10.50 to start. I'd say a 20% tip on top of that adds up to a decent day's pay in the end. In 2020, the minimum wage goes up to $12.00 per hour. Texas tipped wage is $5.25, go toot your horn on social justice to your own legislators.

Our shop pays $3 per hour more than most of our competitors, so don't give me this crap like I'm not walking my talk.

Do you guys think one week is average for a custom fancy monument sign quote?
It depends on how "fancy" it is - what is fancy? Fancy to you might mean standard to someone else.
I think if you are vending out portions of the job, and you get 3 quotes yourself from this vendors, you need a week.
Most sign shops I know are larger than you, can build almost any sign in-house, and have an estimator on staff. 2 day estimates are no problem for them but I know they add a cushion. But they would still prefer a week.

This is going to go against what you were taught, what you want to do, and kinda what that book references...

This is what I did at a production sign shop - I was the only designer, I also worked the cutters and printers and they were always running. Obviously, signshop work may not be art - but there is an art to it. If multiple projects HAD to be layed-out or designed the same day. Crank out the bones of the layout, enough where it is not total crap, but something you might be able to show... usually based on basic sign layouts I had done before - even logos, I would give myself 10 minutes (I know, nearly impossible) then I would slowly go back and tweak each one, one by one till they were better and till I ran out of time. You win some, you lose some. But in time, you get better and better at cranking out "decent" rapid layouts. I do it on the site all the time... you would be surprised how a decent designer can crank out better work than other shops simply by following basic design principles.

I would hope to hear some talk related to signs... not a bunch of misinformed political rhetoric from either viewpoint... get your heads back into the most pressing moment... your political opinions have little to do with your craft!!
