Windows 7 with roland sp-300V

I am reading your thread with interest as I also have an older machine (VS-540) running VersaWorks 5.51 on Windows 10.

Here are my thoughts.

VersaWorks 5.51 seems to be an update of VW 4.0, so use 5.51. I found an old Roland site with a trail that linked 4.0 to 5.51 but all the links are now dead. VW 4.0 wasn't even available by download. You had to have a disc.

I see the sketchy archive site for VW didn't seem to work for you. Seems to me that there is some secret sauce involved in downloading RIP files that archives just don't provide.

Here are my suggestions:

1) Update to a Windows 11 computer. They are cheap - especially refurbs - and have Microsoft support. I don't think using Windows 7 does you any favors. Versaworks 5.51 works just fine on Windows 10 and Windows 11 should be fine too.
3) Easiest: There is a VersaWorks 5.51 disk available on eBay for $50. If you have jobs in the pipeline and can't mess around with computers and software, that should be the easiest solution.
2) Favorite: VersaWorks 7 is said to work with SP300i machines (as well as VS540i, which interests me). I don't think the i machines are all that different from the non i machines. I would simply go to
https://downloadcenter.rolanddg.com/contents/software_parts/VW7_select-model_en.html
and download the VW software to a Windows 11 machine. I haven't tried this myself, but in fact have a Windows 11 machine to eventually replace Windows 10 (when I get the nerve), so plan to experiment.
4) You could have someone copy their VW 5.51 files for you, but suspect it would miss the secret sauce. I never have much luck copying applications. If I were a (too) nice guy, I'd do it for you, but everything works for now and I'm scared to death about touching my own application. Perhaps another member here feels more confident in rooting around their operating system or has a copy that they would be willing to share with you on a dongle.
5) I could be completely wrong, but don't believe it makes much difference to the computer whether you use a USB or Ethernet as long as there is a checkbox for either solution in the software. Your new Windows 11 box will have both even if your SP300 doesn't.

Finally, I will be interested to hear how you solved your issue because we are both running older machines and it helps the knowledge base to know how to fix a problem.

SO, 2 choices

1) if your downloaded iso is still in your downloads, youo can ask someone to burn a dvd for you, go to the library and burn a disk (need to bring blanks with you on one of their computers, or go to kinkos or ups store and have them burn a disk for you (i believe staples also will do it WITH you at the printing center locations.
then go home, uninstall whatever you have now, restart the pc BE SURE the usb cable is unplugged. go into device manager and delete anything marked as usb printing support & composite device .and then insert disk & run setup. IF ANY ERRORS POP UP, STOP. take a picture with your phone of a screen shot & post it here.
DO NOT PLUG USB INTO PRINTER UNTIL THE SOFTWARE PROMPTS YOU TO
this should lead to a sucessful install. when prompted to plug in usb, you should get a "found new hardware" dialog & things should complete as promised.
YOU MAY NEED TO CONNECT TO WINDOWS UPDATE (if it still works for Windows 7) or microsoft downloads (IF IT STILL EXISTS)
we can discuss as we go forward

if you don't want to burn a dvd (you should) you can delete any files you have already copied download again,
download and install winzip trial version, right click on the iso file (looks like a folder) & choose extract all with winzip (or something like that)
allow the program to extract everything into a folder (be sure you can locate it)

when this is done, open the folder things extracted into (NOT THE ORIGINAL DOWNLOAD LOCATION) click on setup & once again, IF ANY ERRORS take a picture or screenshot &
post here . things should go smoothly THERE ARE ABOUT 1000 THINGS THAT CAN GO WRONG. but, i am old, i have seen them all so we know the appropriate trick.
AGAIN, DO NOT plug in the USB until it tells you it is time, or we will be going back up to "2 choices"
I will follow your directions to the letter. Please keep in mind the Windows 7 computer can see my internet wifi but will not let me use it, I have no idea why.
Second, I will transfer files over and screen shot along the way.

lets deal with one thing at a time. it may be the driver for wireless card's specs don't match the router.
encryption level and that sort of thing.
i have been a network consultant for over 30 years, i am sure we can fix your wifi while we are at it.
don't be afraid to ask questions if something goes sideways. windows 7 had it's moments, some things were strange back then
we'll get it all figured out

BEFORE YOU START
go to windows explorer or file explorer and right click on pc or computer choose properties. i am curious if it is windows 7 pro or home, or possibly windows S
windows S makes you obtain certain files from windows store.
