Hello, My name is Ben I have been printing with my xc-540 for about ten years so I know the machine very well. I recently had my network card fail on my machine, and unfortunately, it is part of the motherboard. Luckily I was able to get a backup of the motherboard parameters and latest firmware copied, so I ordered a new motherboard and installed it according to the manual, but have run into some trouble. I have a peck tool and intercon-net tool. I was able to get a ping to the printer and was able to use the pek tool to appear to install the firmware on the PC - it goes through the process and says done, but when I check the printer nothing happens; it just sits there with the IP address showing and says waiting. When I restart the machine I keep getting the ERROR: (sum error). I have wracked my brain and the internet for an answer but to no avail. Signs101 was a blank -- can anyone out there help me? I'm LOST here, is there some way to track the error? I have checked the dip switches; the battery is new; all the plug and ribbon connections were checked and rechecked; I have changed the IP address on the network connection to be different but nada. Thanks in advance for this group and your help.
- Andy thank you for your help! I redid the steps numerous times I have followed the steps exactly yesterday also. I have the updated XC 540 manual. here is where I'm at I have the peck-4 tool and I'm able to find the network card bin file. I've then clicked on the upload firmware button and load the saved firmware.bin file. the pek tool then goes through what appears to be a normal process and successful upload it goes through the process of running the little scale with the blue blocks in it completely through till the end and then shows being DONE on the peck tool. when I go over to the printer screen it still says waiting with the IP address that I had set. Just to make sure that I followed the process correctly at that point I initialized the parameters like shown and I get the dreaded ( sum error). At this point I restart the printer thinking it could be a corrupt file I load a clean firmware update file 4.60 this time the printer beeps when I check the screen it shows DATA ERROR on it. I doth have the money after this terrible winter for a technician and I am totally frustrated. I also shut off the firewall and was doing this all as the administrator. Any other Ideas?
- UPDATE: Ok so apparently you have to start with the old original firmware file to get the system to respond I was able to get firmware version 4.40 to load successfully and saved the parameters at that point I am able to go into service mode and set up the printer name XC-540 and set up the limit initialize and in the service mode I set the ink type and reset the network address and serial#.I have successfully logged into the printers IP address with a browser and updated the network card firmware. I am now using the peck tool to reload the saved parameters file but still having communication issues. I am getting a good ping in the command prompt. When I use the Roland firmware installer it asks for the IP address and I enter it but the window doesn't show the version 4.40 that is currently loaded. and I get an error can't find a printer turn on the main power switch. So at this point, I am stuck again open to new suggestions. I have also tried putting the printer into firmware update mode. And have unplugged the crossover cable and tried to reconnect through the network Nada. I know at this point its something simple I just don't know where to look any suggestions are greatly appreciated. Thanks, PECK TOOL will not connect at this point. cant find the printer WTF.
- Aditional update
- hooked it up to the network and used IP address with all the digits like 010.000.000.110 instead of 10.0.0.110 and was able to get VersaWorks to find the printer and communicate. But it is still stuck on firmware version 4.40 I need to get the pek tool to communicate with the printer to load parameters or I will have to with no head ranks without pulling each head to get head rank and redo the parameters of the entire machine. UG any help is appreciated.
