  1. Is there an Edge vinyl with strong adhesive?

Just relating what I was told at that time. Yes, I'm pretty sure the person I spoke with recently was Doug (I was ordering the FX caps to make Edge 2 foils work on my FX), and he did seem like a straight-up guy. But I will still be cautious and get samples before I order anything of value.
  2. Do you need a LCD for your Gerber Edge?

FYI, the HD44780 chip is the de facto standard driver for these character LCDs, but pretty sure they're not made anymore. But most character LCDs are HD44780 compatible (such as the KS0108 and others). I've seen only a few variations of the pinouts, but for the inline pin format like this, the...
  3. Is there an Edge vinyl with strong adhesive?

Thanks Geoff, but samples are on the way already. I do need to verify first because I have been burned by GMS before. A few years ago, having issues printing more than one color on Lexedge, GMS ("Craig" IIRC) convinced me that their Armalex would solve the problem... which it didn't. Still...
  4. Edge FX uneven print quality

There are some settings on the board (ie: trim pots on the PC board) at the back of the machine which control heat and pressure, but I'd be cautious about messing with those. Gerber support had me tweak one of those with a voltmeter and warned me about overdoing it as it could cause damage...
  5. Is there an Edge vinyl with strong adhesive?

Oh awesome. They're closed today, but I'll see if they can send me a sample to test the adhesive. I need this to go on polypropylene. Thanks.
  6. Is there an Edge vinyl with strong adhesive?

Using Oracal 651 now. The Perma-grip vinyl seems much stronger, but they apparently don't have it in clear. Any others that may work? Thanks, -Neil.
  7. How does my FX recognize how much foil is left on a spool?

Yes, RFID in the thin "bar" on the pickup-spool end, but that's just to recognize the color. A gerber tech rep told me about this so swapping it allowed me to run Fireball red even though my Omega 2.6 doesn't know of that color. I was expecting the printer to recognize that dot-matrix-printed...
  8. How does my FX recognize how much foil is left on a spool?

Awesome... and it's surprisingly doesn't even cost an arm and a leg.
  9. How does my FX recognize how much foil is left on a spool?

Hmmm... tell me more. Is this a Gerber or third-party item?
  10. New shocks for Edge

Don't forget stroke also. McMaster has a very good selection, with length, stroke, force specs listed.
  11. New shocks for Edge

I don't have a maintenance contract, but took my FX to one of those Sharpen Your Edge events, to get a tune up and find out how used my printer was (which I bought used from someone else). Apparently it was in super-great condition, and the rep said they usually just replace the shocks for...
  12. How does my FX recognize how much foil is left on a spool?

A friend recently gave me a bunch of partly-used Edge II foil cartridges and I experimented with unreeling one and re-reeling it onto an FX cartridge spool. It worked great, except that I did not recognize how much feet was left. On another note, I've put in spools that have 3+ yds left, but...
  13. Pricing?

Yes, I am going to use UV guard for generic decals I make, but product decals have held up for years w just Oracal 651. Examples... the circular decal and the trapezoid on this package... And decals like this, which would be hidden in the dash of a car... I've heard that zeronine foils...
  14. Pricing?

Yes, this is what I'm finding out, that I can't compete with the big sticker companies (assuming inkjet). Here's an example I did recently, similar to yours but process colors: 3" circular, 200 pcs. 3 vertically x 21 feet to get 200 pcs. Process foils. Using pricing from Hyatts (though I...
  15. Cast vs. Calendared Vinyl

Other than the manufacturing process, I've been told (by a vinyl supplier) that cast will have a more matte finish, and calendared will be more glossy.
