  1. Plastic for Outdoor Real Estate Signs

I am not sure what happened, but haven't been able to find Komadur or Vycom which we have used in the past for outdoor hanging real estate signs. UV stable, solid core plastic. Anyone know why it is no longer available? Do you have another material you suggest? The beauty of the two brands I...
  2. mimaki eco solvent uv direct print on HIP vinyl for docks on lake

If you direct print in case like this then you must use a UV laminate. The light that is reflected back off the water increases UV exposure dramatically. If you use vinyl, then no need for laminate.
  3. Weeding reflective

You are supposed to weed reflective immediately after cutting as the adhesive tends to bond back with itself (on the other side of the cut). I have used Oralite 5600 and really like it. A few tips: make sure your cut weight is heavy enough to scar the wax paper, but not so heavy it cuts through...
  4. All of a sudden it says now heating. I have to hit pause to start printing.

Our XR640 always heats up before printing so the ink dries... Usually takes between a few seconds (if already warm) and about 2 minutes (when cold).
  5. ONYX RipQueue - is it possible to print to PDF with graphtec cut marks?

We add the crop marks in Flexi and then print through Onyx and our Graphtec reads them just fine. But they are the Graphtec crop marks and the file must have both print and cut in the design. What design software are you using?
  6. Double Cuts

I have usually found this to happen when you have multiple objects with cuts grouped in separate clusters. The system sees all contour cuts as on one layer, but grouping objects and having more than one group seems to lead the file to process as having a double cut on some things. We get this...
  7. Frosted Glass Vinyl for Race Stripes?

Why not use a wrap vinyl a shade off color for this? 3M 1080 series comes in matte and satin finishes too, so they would give that effect plus hold up on a car... Oracal 970 series wrap vinyl comes in a lot of colors. Using a wrap vinyl is how many of us do police cars to give a ghosted effect...
  8. Need Help Laminating ACM/Max Metal

Best to route the sign and then print it. If you are using a flatbed UV printer, you can print a jig (outline) of the sign on to the bed of the printer and then use that to position the routed sign. Ideally, as long as your flatbed is large enough, you would set the sign up with bleed and the...
  9. Reading registration marks on Substance chrome material

I always frame the cropmarks with masking tape.
  10. Question Alternatives to 3M IJ175 and 8518?

Oraguard 290 is a 10 year wrap cast UV laminate - not entry level at all, in fact try to find better. They now list it as 9 year (I think) as they have their non PVC line they are promoting and listing as 10year. We use it on anything that needs UV protection. It is on a paper/clay liner...
  11. Printer Recommendation Latex vs Solvent

This is a can of worms as everyone has their favorite printer, but here is a bit for you: Print and cut always sounds great up front. but the reality is that printers that can do both don't really cut well. A few years back we added Graphtec 9000-160 plotter and it increased our ability to...
  12. Review of General Formulations GF 830 AutoMark Wrap Vinyl

Just got done wrapping two large box trucks boxes and rear rollup doors using General Formulations GF830 AutoMark vinyl and GF831 clear lamination. Give the material a big thumbs up: Printed well Easy to apply Finished product looks great Some things to know about this vinyl: it seems a bit...
  13. wall wrap material

GF226HTR has worked well for us. It is High Tack and Removable! Another plus is General Formulations is an American Company and their vinyl is American Made.
  14. Boat/Marine decals

Not sure why you want to wet apply when there are many good choices of Wrap vinyl, like: Orajet/Oracal 3951 RA Proslide would be an excellent choice - low initial tact, air channels to make dry apply on compound curves easy, 7-8 year warranty depending on laminate used (note this vinyl is...
  15. Graphtec FC9000 Changing Conditions?

We've had ours for a couple of years and it has never done anything like this. Sounds more like an employee goofed and didn't want to admit it, or someone else messed around and made the change either by leaning on the pad or not knowing what they were doing. Maybe someone that services them has...
  16. Need Help How to Clean Retro-Reflective Vinyl before printing

yes, the Solv S1000 removes contaminates, like oils, fingerprints, and specs of material. Spray it onto a microfiber cloth and wipe, or on big pieces you can spray the substrate and then wipe. I like to do a final wipe of the whole thing carefully all in one directions. If you give it a minute...
  17. Need Help Laminated stickers peeled and warped/shriked

I think using that as laminate was bad advice. Also think you should use better quality vinyl and laminate combination. They need to shrink at the same rate or you will get edges curling away. At the least, I would use a polymetric intermediate vinyl if not a cast premium. Over either I would...
  18. head strike, what do i do now?

That looks pretty mild. I would do a cleaning and a new test print. I doubt that you have any damage, but you may need to do a manual cleaning as there may be some ink soaked dust hanging off the head too. Should be an easy fix.
  19. Need Help How to Clean Retro-Reflective Vinyl before printing

Can't be sure without examining the substrate in person, but looks like rub marks (perhaps from being shipped/delivered to you).
  20. Considering hiring a full-time salesperson. Any advice?

For me it is always funny to think that sign businesses need help marketing themselves... we make signs, which are advertising after all, but still need to market other ways.
