  1. Need Help Vinyl Failure Detectives needed!

Yeah I second that, looks like the ink has been removed with some type of chemical, which wouldn't happen if it was laminated. But the installer would notice right away if it wasn;t laminated!
  2. Aluminum Post and Panel System

    Here you go https://www.4everproducts.com/architectural-frame-system/
  3. Opinion BIGGEST Backdrop.

Why bother? at the viewing distance needed for a backdrop this size you would never see the seam anyway. seems like a solution looking for a problem to fix.
  4. Did Grimco acquire Midwest??

Yes Grimco's business plan seems to be to buy out their competitors rather than try to compete against them in terms of service and price.
  5. Satin finish on trailer...will this work?

What's the question? If you are worried about the vinyl not sticking, don't worry it will be fine, but the gloss level of the vinyl might not match the trailer. Usually when you buy aluminum composite sheets, 1 side is gloss, the other side is matte/satin and I've had no issues getting vinyl...
  6. Need Help Die-cutting labels and stickers

Before we got our summa flatbed, we were perf cutting with our graphtec, I bought a cheap ebay blade holder and a lot of cheap blades, it worked fairly well, I had issues on runs longer than 5 feet loosing their tracking toward the end, I assumed it was because the perf cut is very jerky. We...
  7. What do you do when a customer takes a phone call in the middle of placing an order?

I give them a minute, it could be important, after awkwardly standing there for a minute I walk away to keep working on whatever I was doing, when they get off the phone I tell them I'll be back as soon as I'm able to get away, if I just started to laminate a roll of vinyl they will have to wait...
  8. Production file release for "mock-ups"

We did this as well, design time is invoiced as "production layout" it has fixed 90% of this issue for us
  9. Production file release for "mock-ups"

I love this idea, give em the old "soccer taco" as Jill used to say
  10. Production file release for "mock-ups"

You have to remember that 99% of the population outside of the graphics/design business is clueless about these types of things, in their mind, they paid you for design, they get to keep the design, which isn't an unreasonable stance to have, in most transactions, you pay for a product and you...
  11. completed job storage

We have a few "pickup shelves" in the front of our shop, but they fill up quickly with odd sized projects. I've thought about getting a filing cabinet and storing small decal jobs in there alphabetically while they wait for pickup.
  12. ONYX layout circle

Not in summa's case, the machine still uses the on board camera to read the crop marks, but if you want it to read the barcode and pull the appropriate file from the server it's a $2000 option. The software that interfaces with the camera is always running weather you pay for it or not, they've...
  13. ONYX layout circle

I use the ecut plugin for coreldraw and it does true shape nesting along with hundreds of other very useful things, all for a one time $60 price, one of the best software purchases I have bought in a long time! Speaking of add ons, the one that got me recently, on our Summa F1612, it's a $2000...
  14. Epson S80600 and UPS backups

We rent our shop as well, our landlord didn't have an issue with it. If/when we move we can take it with us (but probably won't as its not worth it)
  15. Epson S80600 and UPS backups

Are you hoping to use the battery backup portion, or are you using it strictly as a surge protector? The battery backups that are available from a retail operation won't have enough juice to run a large format printer, you would need an industrial UPS which is very expensive. For surge...
  16. Anyone using a Colex and Onyx?

When we had our summa f1612 installed we had the same issue, turns out that installing the cutter drivers in onyx cut server somehow corrupted cut server (the same issue started happening with our graphtec f8600 at the same time) We Uninstalled onyx, reinstalled and it fixed the issue
  17. Oversized 13 oz pole pocket banner finishing/shipping

I agree, fabric might be the best bet, you can fold them up for shipping and the creases will come right out, they look nicer as well.
  18. This job scares me...

I would ignore the gossip, get paid 100% up front, and do the job.
  19. Best Way to Cut Down 4x8 Sheets of Foam Core?

Yes all those craftsman out there cutting a big rectangle of foam core down to smaller rectangles.
