  1. Looking for some emergency advice

We went until about midnight and then picked up this morning. Now I get to spend Saturday and Sunday enjoying the Rockies instead of sweating the vans!
  2. Looking for some emergency advice

Thanks everyone for your advice, hinging from the top and applying wet worked great and really fairly quick. I appreciate those of you who were able to get past your gag reflex and help a zero talent cretin such as me! :thankyou: :Big Laugh
  3. Looking for some emergency advice

I'm using a 3m sleeve for squeegeeing after removing mask. And I realized I was asking for it with this question - believe me, I'm pretty disgusted with myself! Thanks for the advice; I have been doing the trim and overlap thing but I'm hoping to get past it...
  4. Looking for some emergency advice

3M blue squeegee. I have to disagree with the zero skill thing though - I have enough skill to be overconfident! Honestly, I've been making signs for fifteen years, but we're a low volume shop. All the graphics I've installed on vehicles in the past few years have been lam, egress, cast, no...
  5. Looking for some emergency advice

Thanks Moze! :U Rock: As long as I've got you here.... any advice?
  6. Looking for some emergency advice

Aargh.... I can't figure out how to attach a picture from my phone :banghead:
  7. Looking for some emergency advice

So I am struggling with applying vinyl on the rear quarter of a Ford 350 van. I've got a one got by six foot rectangle with letters reversed out that runs forward from the tail light and stays just below the crease. Unfortunately every time I go over the slight flare around the wheel well I...
  8. Transporting Cut vinyl

Alright thanks everybody, I appreciate it.
  9. Transporting Cut vinyl

Thanks for the reply. I agree that the lettering would transport alright, but the 15" x 7 foot is a solid rectangle with lettering reversed out and I thought there might be bunching or wrinkles introduced by rolling them up... What mask do you prefer to use?
  10. Transporting Cut vinyl

Hey guys, I'm lettering about 15 vans for a customer in Colorado (I'm in Michigan). The largest continuous pc of vinyl is 15"x7' - everything else is text. I was thinking that I would cut and weed here, wrap them around a roll of mask, stick them inside a large diameter tube, seal it up well...
  11. Who actually has rights to this......??

May be a dumb question, but I'm confused on one part of this. Is the art that Goofus wanted on the banners the same art that Gallant is continuing to use with you? And is that what Goofus wants on the doormats as well? Or did you end up making a different logo to put on the banners? I guess...
  12. Battery Backup Units for Digital Printers

Power Conditioning Also, if you have "noisy" power in your shop you may want to go the route we did, which is making sure your ups is also a power conditioner - it converts the incoming power to DC then rebuilds its own AC sign wave so you've always got clean juice.
  13. Help on fabbing a multi-panel acm sign WITH A TWIST (well, a curve anyway)

Mike and Rick, thank you both for the time you spent addressing my questions. Thank you for your candor. I don't know how to weld aluminum and I have already accepted this job, so I'm going to produce it as I described initially (I may switch to alumalite on the rectangular portion for some...
  14. Help on fabbing a multi-panel acm sign WITH A TWIST (well, a curve anyway)

Alternatively I don't necessarily need to have pan faces, I could go flat to the wall, but I'm not sure how I would join them.
  15. Help on fabbing a multi-panel acm sign WITH A TWIST (well, a curve anyway)

Thanks for the help Rick. Why would you steer clear of using the composite materials for a dimensional panel? We have made about a dozen, but none have been in the field for more than a couple of years. I originally got the idea/technique from this SignCraft article -...
  16. Help on fabbing a multi-panel acm sign WITH A TWIST (well, a curve anyway)

Mike, thanks for the information, the foam makes a lot of sense. What do you mean by a triangular frame? John
  17. Help on fabbing a multi-panel acm sign WITH A TWIST (well, a curve anyway)

They look so nice though - is it a real pain to drill them out?
  18. Help on fabbing a multi-panel acm sign WITH A TWIST (well, a curve anyway)

Hi, I've been making flat signs for years, and recently made a few pan signs by routing a groove in alumalite or 3mm acm and folding the edges. I've done a few multipanel signs as well with alumalite and dowel pins. Now I have a customer who wants a sign that is going to need three panels -...
  19. Streaks (smugging) on Banners

I bet this is the problem! We used to get those same streaks. We could see ripples forming on the banner but couldn't figure out why. It took me forever (since I was too dumb to ask at signs101:doh: ) to figure it out. It turned out that with a heavy roll, or a roll that had a lot of...
