  1. Need Help Adding LEDs to laser cut acrylic letters

They're business to business suppliers. Get yer' boss to have his business set up an account with one of them. Pick one that sells other products the company will use, and use them as a vendor for other things too. I have accounts of my own with a few places under the tax ID for my sideline...

    I'll just leave this here....
  3. Need Help Print & cut name tags

I learned the hard way, so you don't have to. Adhesives matter, depending on what they'll be stuck to. We did some name tags for a company function years ago at a place I worked for. I just used some adhesive paper we used for temporary store displays. What could possibly go wrong? Any that were...
  4. Need Help Adding LEDs to laser cut acrylic letters

Don't know if any of the merchant members sell them, but you can get light modules on Amazon (just type "led modules for signs" in the search). Can't attest to their quality or durability compared to what we use, but for a one-off project they'll probably be better, and more weather resistant...
  5. Need Help Adding LEDs to laser cut acrylic letters

Make sure the lights are mounted good, whether you channel them or not. Adhesives can come loose from heat, and since you're putting these exterior, black letters get pretty hot when the sun is beating down on em'. A little silicone here and there helps. If this is something you are planning...
  6. Need Help Adding LEDs to laser cut acrylic letters

Best way to do halo lighting is to have sides on the letters, or whatever you're lighting, like the image attached. The recess forces the light to be reflected toward the wall before it spreads out. Without it the light just shines out the sides and just washes everything out, and the lighting...

  8. Who makes thin chrome Mylar?

I use metalized films to make compliance certification decals that go on roll cages for a heavy equipment mfgr. If it's anything like the stuff I use, I can see why someone would use them on a boat, they're permanent, water, chemical, and salt resistant, but... If they ever had to try to get...
  9. Fun Situation.

Yeah, we know.... But when people sign stuff, and there's dollars attached, I'm sure the question of would we/ could we sticks in some of their minds. We haven't had to actually try to go after anyone for it, don't know for sure if we ever would. Is it effective? Do we just have honest...
  10. I am new to laminating, I SUUUUCK AT IT , I mean really suck at it. Need a video, tutorial or some veteran hacks to get this right....

Yes, rolls need to be centered. How do you attach the backer to the take up reel? On our Seal I use cheap two sided tape, I run all the way down the liner take up tube, when I thread it I pull it tight, square, and attach it all the way across. If you have the lam roll centered, and it's...

I don't use carrier paper anymore either, it's just one more thing to keep aligned. Decades ago I had a Star-64 that you had to use it on because it had over a foot gap between the pinch rollers and a pair of nip rollers that was recessed with fans in it, so it was almost impossible to run...
  12. Fun Situation.

We use a standard disclaimer on every proof and contract we provide that all artwork is our property unless otherwise noted, and that they agree to pay a base fee of $1,000 for any unauthorized use of our artwork. Basically if they want our design files, they need to pay for them, or have it...

True, takes time, lots of patients, and every laminator has quirks. I will say they're a lot better and easier today than when I got my first one 20+ years ago.

There's a little store/ butcher shop that I stop at to pick up lunch... This is their Beef Bacon Cheddar Melt, good customers always pile it high for ya' :p
  15. Who makes thin chrome Mylar?

There are a lot of specialized products, many no longer available in our "eco friendly" world, so what it originally was may always be a mystery. One alternative that should be available through suppliers is Avery's SF100-846-S, it's a chrome metalized 1mil polyester film designed for this type...

Oh the headaches you'll have... But in no time you'll be an expert. There's a learning curve just like any other piece of equipment. There are a lot of variables, tension, speed, pressure, but once you find what works for your workflow and machine you won't struggle as much. RJ hit the biggest...

  18. tracing pen?

All you should need is accurate dimensions and a decent enough photo to see what you need to do, and draw it. I do it all the time, it's even part of my job description. No different than someone who doesn't have a vector of their logo, you get an image to work off of and draw it. If it's large...

  20. Strange Test Print.

Unplug the machine before you mess with those cables, especially on a Roland. They're notorious for blowing head fuses if you look at the cables wrong, and just turning off the power switch still leaves current going to things.
