  1. Taking the next step in printers...

Can't thank you all enough for the feedback. We aren't a large shop by any stretch of the imagination, just myself and 3 FT and 1 PT. We were on track to hit about $600-$650k this year before COVID. We won't hit that this year after closing for 6 weeks. But this September was SUPER busy, in...
  2. Taking the next step in printers...

I totally agree. I believe getting a flatbed will eliminate a lot of time and hassle for the coro/foamboard/PVC jobs we do day in and day out. Most of the UV and/or latex printers don't require lamination on those substrates and are typically more scratch resistant than solvent. So, many...
  3. Taking the next step in printers...

To clarify, I don't consider us high volume, though at certain times of the year it can be overwhelming as multiple customers seem to overlap with their printing needs on top of our regular in and out work during spring and fall which tend to be our busiest times of year. Do you mind me...
  4. Taking the next step in printers...

I don't think I can get away from having at least 1 eco-sol printer for wraps specifically, and I am OK with that, as that machine could also be used for overflow when it's not printing wrap film or similar. The Colorado seemed like a good option for all the poster/static cling and banner...
  5. Taking the next step in printers...

Will be moving to a new (to me) 5,000 square foot shop (end of year start of 2021) which will double what we have now. Room shouldn't be a problem.
  6. Taking the next step in printers...

We run three Mutoh 1624x roll printers here, and have a CWT work table, GFP 563 and Summa F1612 and a D-140 to help with laminating/mounting/cutting prints. Just over the last 2 months, I have realized the bottleneck is no longer our finishing, but with our printers. I am probably just asking...
  7. Question Zund

What software are you designing in? Illustrator has a download plug-in that will put marks on your prints. As far as having your RIP software automatically generate cutting paths and marks, that is a paid option on all RIP softwares as far as I am aware.

Take a look at your dampers - also make sure your drain lines are running and open. I think black and cyan run together in one tube and magenta/yellow in the other. Make sure you can see ink being pulled through both when running a cleaning cycle.

  10. Need Help UsTech AK-600

Our first laminator was an AK-600, for the money I thought it was about the best "starter" laminator you could get. We would regularly run 54" rolls through it all day long - I believe it has a lot to do with getting the setup just right. 1. Load your laminate, leave the roller raised to the...

Patty, a syringe will help you pull ink through - but my first question would be why is your machine not able to get ink through the lines? (Has it been sitting idle and ink is dried up in the lines? Is the capping station bad and not sealing off the head creating proper vacuum to pull ink...
  12. I found this in a sign today..

    Wow....just....wow.
  13. Best Mice For Graphics?

Back when I was learning graphic design in college I started using trackballs. Way more control and you don't have to move your arm all over the desk. I use a Kensington Expert Mouse...
  14. Suggestions Ohio 4 trade suppliers

What kind of "sign supplier" - like materials (vinyl, substrates, etc.)....or a sign fabricator? (Channel letters, cabinets, etc...)
  15. Help with Mutoh vj1624

Lots of things could be going on here, so I'll offer a few things to try... If ink is flowing into the waste lines then it is more likely an electrical issue, which could be numerous things. I would replace the ribbon cables if you haven't already, pay very close attention that they are seated...
  16. How to efficiently cut 4'x8' Coroplast sheets into signs??

Before we got our Summa F-1612 we did run some coro on our 4x8 CNC table with a Donek drag knife tool. Honestly, it was OK at cutting simple shapes like circles, ovals, squares, etc.. but it struggled with anything more complex than that. It simply wouldn't do it clean enough for sale-able signs.
  17. Compatible Eco Solvent Ink for Roland Printer from JETBEST

You're welcome Francis, actually we've been using the ink since around 2010-2011, IIRC. However, at that time we were buying directly from JetBest USA in California. Again, been very happy since we started using it - and definitely has saved us a lot over OEM. (Never any head problems...
  18. Compatible Eco Solvent Ink for Roland Printer from JETBEST

Long time JetBest user, always been very happy with both the ink and service from Premiercolour.
  19. Staying open and profitable

Many will tell you it's more efficient and profitable to specialize in a limited amount of offerings as a sign shop. (Channel letters only, vehicle wraps only, etc...) And while I don't disagree with that on paper, it can leave you in a pickle if that revenue stream dries up. I've kept my...
  20. Need Help Head Replacement kit for Mutoh

I don't believe there are any "kits" available as such. However, if you are replacing the head, I would definitely replace all dampers and at least a new cap top or whole maintenance station so that everything starts "as new" again.
