  1. Taking delivery of our new Summa F1612 next week, what else should I know?

Not trying to speak for Phil, but I can answer this. The sacrificial foam roll just protects the belt from the router bit chewing into it. We don't do a ton of routing on this machine, as I said we have a dedicated 4x8 CNC router - but have done several projects on it. We've wasted about...
  2. Taking delivery of our new Summa F1612 next week, what else should I know?

No regrets at all so far. Machine is accurate and fairly simple to use, also very flexible as we cut posters, static clings and banners down using the tangential knife and a 60 degree blade, we cut coro and foam board with both the oscillating knife and double edge knife and while we do have a...
  3. Anyone looking at their business differently now?

I've been struggling as well with identity during this shutdown. We're not a big shop, we're not a small shop - but often times the bigger we get the more I wonder if it's really worth all the added stress and liability. Reminds me of this story...
  4. Need Help Mutoh VJ1604 blue ink nozzle issue

First question; How old is that print head? If older than 3-4 years, most likely time for a new printhead...also when was the last time you changed your dampers? IMHO - If it costs $6500 to replace just the printhead, i would instead get a new printer, with all new parts, bearings, etc.
  5. Mutoh Value Cut VS Summa / Graphtec

I don't think anything can beat Summa's reliability and accuracy - on top of that, their customer service is second to none. On a scale of 1-10 I would rate Summa a 9.0, the Graphtec would be a 7.0 and the Mutoh would probably be in the 5.0 range. Just my opinion...
  6. Dont know about you, but my buisiness just stopped

Ohio's governor just announced yesterday that as of midnight tonight, everyone is ordered to stay home except "essential" businesses. We pushed to get as much done of our backlog last week, but at the same time the phones and emails pretty much stopped. We have a few oddball projects we will...
  7. Anyone seeing a slowdown due to coronavirus?

Not so much of a slowdown yet, but just got news from a big client that they are not allowing vendors/contractors on-site for non-emergency work until after March. We have several big wall murals to install this year and were supposed to go this week to the first site...no telling how long...
  8. Is there any forum or resource available for users of ESTIMATE?

Tried twice - no response, just looking to see if someone knows where to ask questions, or another Estimate user would be willing to discuss some of my issues.
  9. 1638X Streaking?

After looking at that pic, it almost seems like something is dragging or hitting. Get a flashlight, park the head and REALLY look around it - sometimes I have found buildups of dust/globs that you can't see from the front hiding around the back edges, etc. Sometimes it can be necessary to...
  10. Mutoh Multiple Hardware Problems

Being new to this you might not realize what you've gotten yourself into. If that machine has been sitting with ink in it a very long time (6+ months) you will have your work cut out for you, if less than that it might not be too bad. A new head is roughly $2500.00, the maintenance station...
  11. 1638X Streaking?

Hmm, hard to tell from your pics about the problem itself, but your nozzle tests look good, so I doubt the issue is there. Perhaps check your print ribbons/wires to make sure you don't have anything loose or perhaps a short in them? Not sure how old this machine is or if you've had since new...
  12. Is there any forum or resource available for users of ESTIMATE?

Started using Estimate last year, I really like the software but I have questions on certain items that I would like to tweak. Also, have some questions about how things are configured - I've spent a lot of time and gotten things about 80% to where I want them to be, but would really be nice to...
  13. Shuttle Bus Wrap Price Check

I agree 100% - my shop would be in that same ballpark and we aren’t too far away from the OP.
  14. Roll laminators vs flatbed

Agree 100%. We have a GF 563TH and a CWT 1640, couldn't part with either IMHO. We usually keep the 563 spooled up with wrap laminate or another common laminate and then use the CWT mostly for mounting, and also short run, specialized laminating projects as others have said. Yes, either...
  15. Question How tough is HDU board?

By itself, HDU is pretty strong, but on 1" material, where you've remove 1/2 of the depth, yes, it's going to be pretty flimsy. The biggest factor will be how it is to be mounted. Would probably be OK to do a wall mount or something with a completely solid surface behind it, but if you intend...
  16. Need Help Longest lasting contour cutting blade for Roland Print-Cut

Another vote for Clean Cut, fantastic blades.
  17. 51" LAMINATION ON 54" VINYL?

Not sure it will work perfectly, but it would be worth a shot; Back in my offset printing days the press operators had this stuff called rubber rejuvenator that they would apply to the rubber blankets on the press when they had a smash or crush, don't know but worth a shot...
  18. 51" LAMINATION ON 54" VINYL?

Unfortunately no, but I found the key to those machines is getting the roller to lay down evenly - as in don't let the right side touch and then have 1/4" to go on the left side. Because the roller is crowned it will cause weird pressure on the film and your prints to skew or track incorrectly...
  19. 51" LAMINATION ON 54" VINYL?

Yup, same model we had. Basically, once you get the roller down to about 1/4" off the material, just give 1/2 turns back and forth (left knob/right knob) till the roller lays flat without tension and the knobs should be loose/slack. The weight of the roller is plenty - don't try to tighten to...
