  1. 51" LAMINATION ON 54" VINYL?

We had a US Tech AK-600 for years. They really aren't bad machines, but can be a little finicky at times. Yes, using 50-51" lamination film does make life a little easier when printing on 54" but you have to keep in mind not to print beyond those boundaries and better yet, keep it at 48" of...
  2. looking to buy a new laminator

Can't say I know anything about that. We've had ours over 3 years, it gets used most of the day, every day as we are all print and stick. No issues or problems thus far. I really couldn't understand how the frame could "twist" if you saw the structural steel under this thing I think you could...
  3. looking to buy a new laminator

We have a CWT 1640 flatbed laminator AND a GFP 563TH and use them both all day. The GFP is good for long runs like a whole wrap job or wall mural, the flatbed is great for smaller stuff or specialty laminates and also is the best at mounting and sticking vinyl to substrates. Just my .02¢
  4. Just In Don't cha just hate when this happens.........................

Yup, saw that and was thinking the same thing before I read your response - just a little bit of steel left and not cut through all the way. Looks like their bucket truck probably took some damage on the passenger side...ouch.
  5. Taking delivery of our new Summa F1612 next week, what else should I know?

Yup, totally agree. The speed and accuracy on larger jobs really makes me appreciate not doing things by hand with a straight edge and razor. Plus, even 1-off projects aren't too bad, though we do tend to limit what we put on it if it can be done quicker by hand... But all in all, a great...
  6. 3rd party inks killed my head ?

Unfortunately, the only way to be sure is to buy a set of OEM ink carts and wait and see. OEM and Jetbest are compatible, so no worries about flushing, etc. If the problem goes away you'll have your answer, if it persists, it's something else...
  7. 3rd party inks killed my head ?

Honestly, having an OEM head last 5 years is possible but most manufacturers will say average life is about 2-3 years. So I wouldn't necessarily jump the gun and say the ink was the culprit there. The new head dying within such a short time is very strange. A bad head could be the result from...
  8. Question Card Perforations in Postcard. How to?

To elaborate, if you are willing to use a local source to do these for you, loo There are a lot of machines that can do die cutting - I came from an offset printing background and saw many different machines, even old letterpress units (Heidelberg windmills and Kluge's converted to no longer...
  9. Question Card Perforations in Postcard. How to?

Several different ways to do that; 1. Using a flatbed cutter like a Zund/Esko/Summa/Colex, etc.. They make perfing wheels and creasing wheels 2. Using a die-press, a die is made and the perf is stamped onto the material - best for large runs 3. They do make standalone perf/score machines...
  10. Wasatch Corrupt Company

Similar scenario happened to us with Wasatch, as of end of last year they will no longer support legacy versions and if you have any trouble will be forced to go to the monthly subscription. Unfortunately, this is becoming the way of the world for most commercial software packages - look at...
  11. Fat head requests for high school graduation

We've been doing these regularly for the past 3-4 years. We tried all sorts of materials, coro is the best bang for the buck. Yes, foam board looks nicer initially, but gets banged up easily AND will not hold up to a rainy/wet event outdoors (Football, soccer, baseball, etc.)
  12. 20'x50' Banner- Vendors for Oversized Banners?

Signs365 is who we typically use for oversized banners.
  13. Interesting dilemma

Just to throw my .02¢ in the mix...I came from 14 years in the offset printing world before I went to wide format and signs. PANTONE colors books represent colors of finished "mixed ink" which has a recipe on how to mix it - similar to how Sherwin Williams mixes paint to an exact color. That...
  14. Additional Pinch Rollers

I've often considered adding pinch rollers to our D-140. Many times we are doing big long print and cut jobs having a 16' long graphic, 54" wide going in and out of the machine. Sometimes just the weight of that piece can once in a while cause it to shift in the nip with 4 pinch rollers. I...
  15. WTB Used Summa Flatbed 1612 (or similar)

Check Global Garage - usually have used Zund and Eskos on there, not sure about the Summa
  16. Wind load on wall mount channel letters???

Working on a set of non-lit channel letters and everything has been approved thru local zoning, BUT now they kicked this over to their building dept who are requesting wind load calculations on the channel letters. WTF!?!? While I'm sure there is such thing to a minor degree, wouldn't that...
  17. Best cutting ruler? NOT ALUMINUM!

Now see, we've had one of those exact units for years (60-65") and it sits in a corner collecting dust. It does cut straight, but the knife cut isn't exactly on the edge so its like a 1/8" off. Plus, I find it awkward and heavy to move around the table when you have to make a lot of cuts, and...
  18. Substrate Cutter needed - Recommendations?

We've also had a Fletcher substrate cutter, but as Firesprint mentioned we found ours terribly difficult to square perfectly and sold it years ago. Other than a CNC table, the best "cutter" at our shop is our DeWalt track saw. (Fletcher and Makita also make a version too.) For the money...
  19. Need Help SAM INK

If you're running a Mutoh I would advise you to look into JetBest ink. We've been running it for nearly 8 years now with no problems and great print quality. They are a global distributor, so hopefully you can find someone that can sell it to you.
