  1. need some answers please on hp scitex

"Also we a x-rite eye-one pro" ..."we have an x-rite"? if you have an eyeone then you are ready to go. onyx is the only rip that can use that thing without the additional items/software to profile your media. if you have one guy do the sweeping of the pattern and another guy keep is eye on...
  2. Liquid Lamination...Frog Juice

we use it on inkjet canvases off of the canon. we tried several options and it came out ahead (despite me being unimpressed by the very unprofessional marketing of lime green labels and being called "frog juice".) we thin it to about 1:1 to 2:1 naptha and it's pretty much impossible to spray a...
  3. Printing On Glass

looked at the PT40 msds, all it shows is that it has acetone and water in it. i can't imagine that it is acting as a "primer". maybe a precleaner. also the HP PT70 polycarbonate primer is nothing but a mild solvent that "opens" up the polycarbonate. not worth purchasing in that it is also...
  4. Help! Printing to Mimaki JV3-160SP and RIP questions

for a beginner, i'd avoid onyx. rasterlink is a real pleasure to use (cheap to free) and has ten times more features than you'll need starting out. i'm forced to use onyx production house 10.1 now and miss my old rasterlink (wasatch) every time i need to set up a print.
  5. Brother-Jet Mini/Small Direct White ink UV Flatbed Printer

all the models look like chinese printer (just like on alibaba). ...not a bad thing. i just doubt this company is doing anything other than importing and putting an american face on this product. http://www.alibaba.com/trade/search?fsb=y&IndexArea=product_en&CatId=&SearchText=epson+flatbed
  6. Gandi 3150x2

the nano size shouldn't be an issue. i got an old clogged dx4 to clear up once and it has very tiny jets. on the other hand i have three tables covered with every imaginable solvent, resin, and glycol in open containers for mixing my proprietary inks.
  7. JV3 Printing black streaks

if you did a data swap and the issue stayed at the black head. then you may do one more thing. this issue will happen if a data cable isn't seated properly or damaged. after getting a positive/negative on the data cable. also completely swap data cables (both ends) trading the magenta cable...
  8. Soljet XF

whatever evil epson can get away with, they will do. how about a sign printer with blue and red ink? all those channels are just waiting for a proper sign friendly ink set.
  9. JV-33 CLONE machine with yellow issues

if you are having an issue like that, just take the yellow damper and place it on a functioning channel. this will isolate the starvation to the ink supply or below the damper. there's really no reason to change a head unless it's been isolated as the issue.
  10. UJF-3042HG Gloss Help

on my printer there is a utility that has arrows and little light bulbs and you choose the option. the varnish needs time to wet out in order to become glossy. so whatever your printer offers, you'll be wanting the ink to be laid down, the lamp would be off trailing/behind the head or in...
  11. Soljet XF

they painted it red to remind their customers of the one color that the printer can't hit.
  12. UJF-3042HG Gloss Help

do you have the lamps set up for a "post cure" or are they curing the thread/pass as soon as it's laid down?
  13. JV3-160 SP Ink Change

my favorite way to to make home brew cleaning solution (cheap and better). unhook your pumps, do the ink change at the firmware/menu (unavoidable). let the printer squawk and clack away, attempting to throw away hundreds of dollars of ink. when it's done, thank it for all it's hard work at...
  14. JV3 self cleaning during print

my jv3 did that. it's just taking advantage of the open space to prime the heads. what it's doing is it his "flashing" the heads. they are being sucked on by the capping station. the heads is firing some tiny micro streams, and the pump is running to catch and pull down the ink into the caps.
  15. Logo Critique

i think the bear is too illustrative. could be a good bit more iconic. currently it's in kind of a "sports team" design idiom. that said, i'd look at a lot of sports logos and study how they've been deconstucted/simplified.

  17. Gandi 3150x2

    N-Methyl-2-pyrrolidone http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/N-Methyl-2-pyrrolidone
  18. Gandi 3150x2

i've never read the msds on the NMP. maybe being a "green" solvent i figured it was no big deal. i get it on my hands, no irritation. just wash it off with soap. i'll read up and be more careful if necessary. that said, if i avoided every material that ever had a spooky msds, i would...
  19. Gandi 3150x2

i'd try this before getting the heads to a cleaning service. we recently had our used CET installed. unfortunately the printer sat in a crate in the hot texas summer for two months. when we got the printer up and running, we got word that we had clogged heads. the installer removed seven...
  20. Ink starvation? Need it fixed

you have to do a damper swap to isolate that kind of behavior in order to fix it. do some searching under "damper swap" and in just a few minutes you'll be completely aware of where the starvation is being created. also i'd get a stethoscope at an auto supply place. they are essential in...
