It's done frequently. Whether or not you use strictly VHB tape or you use VHB tape along with stitch welding or other supporting attachment methods depends on the size of the sign, it's exposure to winds, engineering requirements, etc.

I would manufacture it with a couple of cleats. You could stud-mount it, but that poses two potential issues: - You would be attaching studs to a curved surface. - Studs don't allow for any adjustment. If you use a cleat, you can slide it so it butts up directly against the adjacent panel.

The Command Strips aren't suggested for use on wallpaper. If the customer doesn't mind damaged wallpaper, I would use 1" squares of VHB tape (add a few dollops of silicone if they really don't mind damage). If they want minimal damage, it depends on what material you're hanging, but I guess at...
