  1. Best way to deal with seams on multiple face panels across large lighted cabinet?

I'm really not sure why/how the sign was made the way it was. It's mounted on the side of the building facing the road and is only about 8' off the ground to the bottom of the cabinet. The depth of the cabinet is 12" and the faces I planned to use were 3/16". There is only grass in front of...
  2. Best way to deal with seams on multiple face panels across large lighted cabinet?

I agree that a flex face would also be a better way to go, but unless I am mistaken, by the time we retrofit the cabinet to accept a flex face we're almost in the same ballpark as having pans made....to buy and install the new retainers or use a sign-spring system for a 4' x 50' cabinet that...
  3. Best way to deal with seams on multiple face panels across large lighted cabinet?

Going to refurbish a 4' x 50' cabinet using flat faces. The previous sign used customer formed pan faces, which I know would be the best way, but the customer (a non profit) simply doesn't have the funds for formed pan faces and has to get this done by end of this year or the monies they do...
  4. Need Help Need an expers wholsaler that can manufacture a large flexface sign

I would look to Indy Imaging - I've used them in the past for flex face and they do a great job.
  5. New shop tool

Need to get one myself, we've got HVAC guys next door and I'm always finding bits of metal and screws in the parking lot...just waiting to find one in my tires...where did you get that unit?
  6. What to do with equipment

Any printer can still have value either to someone starting out that doesn't mind taking a gamble and investing more sweat equity than money, or possibly as a parts machine for someone who has the same machine and needs a good main board, etc. List it up on ebay or Craigslist or even your local...
  7. Sad news, read about Bob Stephens (Sign Maniac) in the newest Signcraft

Tragic loss, one of the many on here I respected and admired - wanted and still trying to gain the talent and knowledge he had...
  8. "Powering down" upon sensing media.

Just spoke to a good friend of mine who is a Mutoh technician. He asked if you are seeing any kind of an error code before it shuts down? He too, seemed to want to point towards the encoder and/or sensor, but he also said it could be due to a voltage or amperage spike (perhaps due to it...
  9. "Powering down" upon sensing media.

Take a look at your encoder strip. Any scratches, deformations or ink smudges near the area where the carriage is stopping? We had a similar problem years ago (without it powering off) with a 1604 and wound up replacing both the encoder strip and the sensor that rides along it. Worked fine...
  10. Wanting to learn old school gold leaf...

Great advice guys, thank you for sharing. I'm currently looking at buying the gilders starter kit from Letterhead supplies - which also includes the book mentioned above. Should that be sufficient to get started, or is it overkill? Really don't want to overspend, but I know buying good...
  11. Wanting to learn old school gold leaf...

Primarily looking to start playing with gilding V-carve style letters and carved decorative elements for signs, and then work towards gilding on glass.
  12. Wanting to learn old school gold leaf...

Wanting to start tinkering with doing gold leaf for a few personal projects. Have watched several youtube videos from some of the members here and others, but time to roll up the sleeves and get into it. Pretty much need it all to get started, and would like to get some fake gold leaf to...
  13. The "Rabbit Hole" topic of Corner Rounders - Looking!

Been thinking of upgrading our old Lasco, good info on this thread!
  14. Vehicle wraps in the cold

As others have said the "right" way to do this is to have an indoor heated facility. However, in a pinch we have installed a couple trailers and box trucks using the space heater placed inside the truck or trailer. You basically leave the back door cracked a few inches for fumes, but the heat...
  15. Beverage Trailer Question

Charge whatever you want, but be advised wrap installation on most vehicles, especially on trailers is always prices by the square foot. most of the installers we work with charge anywhere from $1.50 - $3.00 square foot depending on vehicle and difficulty. If that 40' trailer has 7' sides I am...
