  1. Sign Shop Lobby Help

I think the samples around the office area is a good idea, but I only have photos or printouts hung up on the wall of that stuff. At almost any given time, if someone needs to look at a sample, I can get the stuff out in the shop. If I wanna show off what all we do, I just motion to them and...
  2. Gorgeous lettering - is it a font?

Correct. Whether this thing was originally pounced, traced or free hand, it still came from a base font. The handling of the swashes and flourishes is what makes it distinct. While a machine might've created the template, the hand-letterer takes poetic license and does his/her best to...
  3. Gorgeous lettering - is it a font?

Talent and skilled hand letterers, yes, but I agree with bob, that was originally painted or even gilded on someone's window. No hand calligrapher is gonna do that kinda job. Just ain't in the stars. Some of hallmarks or whoever else's talented artists, more than likely..... copied that and...
  4. Gorgeous lettering - is it a font?

It could very easily be a font and most likely is, but it looks like glass gilding and those guys are masters at adding flourishes, alts and swashes.

  8. Year end purchase

The last two years won't do ya any good. Ya need to know what you've currently been spending on an average the last 3 or 4 months. You might've had a huge order 2 years ago and/or some other oddball scenario. You need to figure out, if it's increasing currently. If you farm out...
  9. Self Taught Newbie -- Color, Material or Media Setting Problem

The matte is not your problem. We also use both gloss and matte and there is no difference in the color. It's most likely a lousy media that doesn't accept ink very well, plus your profile is all wrong. You're in florida..... there's a lotta places to get good banner material down there. We...

  11. Year end purchase

How much printed media to you order in a week or month ?? If you can't keep a printer busy at least 3 days a week, it would be a waste of money. Not to mention, ya need a laminator to go with it.
  12. Self Taught Newbie -- Color, Material or Media Setting Problem

Besides finding a better profile, it appears to be your monitor doesn't represent your printed colors very well. Use that same color blue and print on your vinyl, that you are used to and see if it's similar. Also, get yourself some recognizable banner manufacturer material.
  13. Customer permission to post job pics online?

Maybe I'm just very old fashioned, but that sounds incredible.

Does anybody actually get lotsa business through these channels, other than a buncha busy work ?? I don't remember anyone ever telling me they got our name through anything other than a customer referral, our website or word of mouth. How many serious people wanting a fleet of trucks or a...

  17. Anyone know a wholesale supplier for these pole arm doodads?

Yep, that could be a deal breaker. Having something like that shipped in, if ya find it is gonna be awfully expensive, too. Good luck with that. :thumb:
  18. Customer permission to post job pics online?

Without getting into it.....google this little guy and you'll see it's not as cut & dried as you think. It's a short article, but what most of what y'all are referring to is pictures off the internet, not specifically pictures of someone's property. Again, we do it all the time, but we DO...
  19. weird issue

Well, tex and JB..... call me stupid, but isn't this why nothing else is supposed to be on the same circuit as your sign ?? It's always been our way of doing it. All electric signs must be on a dedicated line.
  20. Anyone know a wholesale supplier for these pole arm doodads?

That's like why we have restaurants........ Instead of making your food, just go have someone else make it and pay dearly for it. Seriously, if you'd buy a new pole like Z mentioned at homer's, you'd have maybe 20 minutes in it all total and you could still sell if for a hefty markup and...
