  1. Alternate to Flexi

We had similar issues when upgrading to 19, in addition to many transparent images would still print a visible "ghost square" around the images. Reverted back to 12 and there we stay until it's fixed.

  3. How do you manage your color match

trouble with that pdf chart is that the actual color swatches are cmyk not the pantone. Doesn't say what version either. I tried matching using various pantone versions and get a much different outcome.
  4. How do you manage your color match

Seems to depend more on the printer and/or the RIP. With our HP360 and Flexi Print Manager we've had to create custom profiles in order to match pantones. The only way we've found is to increase the number of passes which slows the print down tremendously. Also pdf seems to convert closer to...

  7. Text size in Adobe illustrator

Corel 1. use the Smart Fill tool, click inside the letter you wish to size to i.e. capital 2 reize that shape to the size you'd like. Take note of the percentage of increase or copy that percentage 3. select text then paste the percentage in and hit enter. Text is now sized 4. delete shape...
  8. Text size in Adobe illustrator

Not sure if that was in reference to me but my settings are always "inch", "pts" is pointless (pun intended) until customers says "make the font 24pt". btw I can type 24pt, cm, mm, px etc. in my text size and it will be correct, it just tells me in inches what 24pt is.
  9. Text size in Adobe illustrator

Informative. I agree in real word typeset i.e. paragraphs, editorials, etc., the default way is necessary. However, in the sign world, it would be nice to have an option to set type by height of caps. I tested the Corel macro with various fonts, to include scripts, and it works as I'd expect. So...
  10. Text size in Adobe illustrator

Correct, Corel's text size isn't true size either (see below). I do, however, use a macro to size text properly. SignLab has it right, no matter what font you use.

Just heard back from CADlink. $300 for the program + $50 for the USB Dongle. I'm on to begging and pleading to our Network Administrator who will in turn beg and plead to the owner.

I started with this company 1 month before my actual retirement date from the military. I was in charge of a Graphics Department in the military. We used CorelDraw exclusively. The first thing this company had me do was sit and familiarize/learn SignLab. Took me all of 2 minutes to realize it...
  13. manipulating contour cut

Well not sure about Flexi but in corel I'd select the shape and "create boundary" this would give you just the outer perimeter whereby ignoring all inside shapes. If there are still various areas inside that do need to be cut I'd use the smart fill tool to fill those then combine them with that...

We have an old version of SignLab running on a Win98 pc. That was the way the company did things long ago before I came along and showed them the error of their ways.. That pc has been giving us many hardware issues. SignLab is a very expensive program, too expensive to buy again plus a new pc...
