  1. Merry Christmas! I finally bought a printer

I started with the 110 and then moved up within a year... I got lucky and got a 560 for cheap. Did you get the take up reel? I don't know why they even sell printers without them... They're useless only able to print 4 ft without one! Grats on your printer, I'm sure you'll love it. Latex is...
  2. Question Best shop temperature?

Look into better insulation too. I have a setup at home in my garage, and its un heated... Last winter I needed 3 radiant heaters to keep the temp up in there... I put some reflectix over the door and now 1 radiant heater on medium makes it hotter in there than my house... and it's about $5 a...
  3. 2 DTG Machines...what should I do

How's the storage locker business out here? Didn't even know we had one. Anything good or is it 99% junk? If they're taken apart they were taken apart for a reason. A new head is 2-4k and I've seen the machines sell used for less than that (able auctions has the Epson last year and it sold for...
  4. Continue with Roland print and cut solutions or move to a 2 piece print and cut solution?

40k?! Where you shopping at? We just got a brand new 700w with a full set of ink for 31.5k cad after taxes with all the go installs and everything. 2 vendors with the exact same pricing (vendors arent allowed to sell it for more than MSRP) If you were quoted 40k, time to find a new supplier!
  5. Declining jobs based on moral/ethical grounds

Let's view this from another angle. As an owner... How would you feel if your employee refused to print or do something because it was against their belief? Would you be ok with it and work around them... Or get tired of it and hand them a pink slip? There are more important things to worry...
  6. Adobe - Changes coming to the Pantone Color Libraries

https://drive.google.com/file/d/14nnWfDJFDOUDlWee3oCciQZHUIrJIoAx/view?usp=sharing And here is a link to the V4 file if you guys dont feel like generating it yourself. It has almost 30% more pantone colors than the one included in adobe.. I can't see adobe removing their whole color book...
  7. Adobe - Changes coming to the Pantone Color Libraries

The swatches in adobe are outdated already (Well, they were last time I checked). There were a few pantones I couldn't find...so I downloaded the pantone library from X-rite, imported it into illustrator... And then they were there. Download Pantone color manager... if you have an Xrite, its...
  8. RANT: Roland's 'white' printing is a terrible JOKE

Our latex prints a white just as opaque and white as our screenprinter can. Our flatbed uv white sucks, we disabled it once we got our 700w because it's a night and day comparison. No experience with solvent white... But latex is as good as screen Imo. So far being outside for a few months it...
  9. Roland VS540 and perforated window decals

If you are printing for vehicles then you do need to laminate the back otherwise when it rains you won't be able to see out the window at all.
  10. Question Printers and Vinyl for die cut stickers

Latex has its downsides as well, so it's not a "argument". A year ago I was just starting out.. and wasting 3 ft of material everytime I printed was killing me on vinyl usage. And all I did was small stickers... So the graininess compared to the Epson was very noticeable. So I got an...
  11. Question Printers and Vinyl for die cut stickers

Epson ink curing time is 6 hours... Not 24. I find the ink is pretty scratchable compared to latex no matter how long it dries... I played with not laminating, but imo it's too scratchable when you're handling the print (ie stickers). For non laminated I'd go with a latex printer.
  12. Screened printed Reflective vinyl on coro blanks

If you have a latex printer you can print it... It's not going to be certified for not or warrantied, butnits rated at 10 years and will work. My guess is this doesn't need certification...
  13. Screened printed Reflective vinyl on coro blanks

I don't think many mm here do diamond grade... It's pretty much only used in traffic. DG is one of the most expensive vinyls. Has your customer bought these before and know what the cost is going to be? I don't do pricing... But my guess is we'd be around $25-30 a sign (Canadian) which is...
  14. Illustrator FINALLY increased canvas size by 10x

If you use plugins be careful. Cutting master specifically reads the file as 1/100 scale if large artboard is selected... Even if your artboard is 12x12 cm4 will cut it very tiny! Not sure about other plugins...
  15. Overlaminate for Vinyl

Some calandered is ok for car decals... Some not. I'd at least get a polymeric calandered with UV protection. Something like 3m 8508. It also depends on the material. Never put a calandered overlam on a cast vinyl (the reverse is generally ok) I feel like uscutters prices are pretty high...
  16. Question Is It Just Me or...?

I'd never try to tie my phone its too expensive, keyboards are much easier for tying!
  17. Vinyl with strong glue!

What you want is called "High tack vinyl" Just ask your local supplier whats available
  18. Need Help FC9000 - Cutting Issues Barcode and Mark

The barcode is a bit tricky. It used to take me 4-5 tries for it to read it... Now it's fine! You're supposed to print with it aligned to the left (centered will change every panels barcode position, so if you're using roll barcodes it won't continue and read the next) And I position it about...
  19. Need Help FC9000 - Cutting Issues Barcode and Mark

Are you on the newest firmware for your fc9000? I have it working with thrive 21. This will be drastic... But uninstall both onyx versions you have, reboot and reinstall thrive 21. When I upgraded the bar idea stopped working as well, I had to do a fresh install rather than an upgrade and...
  20. New HP Latex 700 and 800 series - with White ink

I've only had an issue with high tack vinyl, for some reason the pinch rollers grab onto the material. All I do is cut an inch away from the top leaving exposed liner and it picks it up fine. We haven't run too many different materials on it yet, but this material has always worked fine in our...
