  1. Acquiring A Computer's Business

Lump Sum + Percentage on the sales is what my accountant and an SBA advisor recommended when I was in a similar situation. It was slightly different because I was acquiring assets from a closing business (already announced they were closing). From an open business in good shape it will be a...
  2. Question Resize Poor Picture

Here's the real trick: Find another image. The image is 300x570. That's barely acceptable for a decal. I honestly am perplexed how a sign professional would even bother posting about this. This is Computer 101. Garbage In = Garbage Out.
  3. Sign Shop Lobby Help

Display what you want to sell. Look at every major retailer in the world. They put what they want to sell in front of your face. If it's too big to display, buy a Raspberry Pi and a big, cheap TV, and put up a bunch of pics that are constantly scrolling. If a customer wants to learn more...
  4. Looking For Printed And Routed Dibond Or Other Material

If you're looking for that, that is two pieces of jade acrylic and likely a piece of paper stuck in between.
  5. Need Help Vectorizing

I know Corel has a pretty good trace, but I've found Inkscape to be the best that I've tried. It blows Illustrator out of the water. Took me about 1 minute to get an outline on that. Is it perfect? Who knows. What's perfect when you're tracing low resolution artwork?
  6. Solar Powered Sign Cabinet

I have limited knowledge of solar power but it shouldn't be too complicated. I'd go with a grid tied trickle charge setup. Basically if the batteries start going dead, it switches to grid power and starts charging the batteries up. Overall, because LEDs don't suck up a lot of juice and are DC...
  7. Suggestions Acm...........................

Instead of throwing it in the dumpster, you could literally try to recycle it. While you might not be able to get paid, you could potentially get a free pickup. Plastic and aluminum are both recyclable materials. Someone should take it.
  8. Need Help First Wrap

Your boss hires someone out of college with a degree in graphic design. He says "train this new employee so I can fire you because they make $10k less per year." Would you train that person? If she can't do this job, would another sign shop do it? If the answer is yes, it's counter intuitive...
  9. Neewww Guy Here. I Have A Billion Questions Lol

Outsource the printing. See if you can make money doing it. If it's viable, buy a printer.
  10. 3mm Pvc Ok For Hanging Post?

Just use "Dibond" and move on. If you get the cheap stuff, people won't even know it has any aluminum. The edge will show as black plastic.
  11. 5 Ft X 20ft Banners Installed On Plywood

Put in posts. Screw 2x4 cross beams. Apply Banner. If you don't want it to look like a banner and have expectations for the banner to be as tight as a piano string, I think you should ditch the banner idea and go with solid panels. 5x10 ACM is likely the better choice than heavy plywood...
  12. I inherited a sign shop that I want to keep.

Have you ever thought about changing business plans? You can continue being a sign shop but outsource a majority of your work to either for the trade suppliers or local shops. This will allow you to focus on selling and customer service. Slowly but surely, you'll learn about the industry and...
  13. Small Cut Letters - Opinions on Vinyl/Paint/acrylic on face only

I have to cut some 2.5" letters out of 12mm PVC. Not a big deal but painting them afterwards is a pain. I always play with the idea of just putting viny/paint on the face and leaving the edge black or white, but I never do it. I did some searching around today and it seems like all the big...
  14. 4 ft x 8 ft commercial real estate sign

I'm sorry, but you're being far to general with your statement about latex paints. There are many latex paints that are absolutely vinyl compatible. I've named a couple above. Also, you're simplifying the difference between plywood and MDO. MDO's paper overlay is specifically designed to add...
  15. Looking for printable vinyl that will stick to uncoved dry wall.

A trick of the trade show world is to have graphics applied to panels. I have no idea if that's applicable to this project, but the savings in labor and the benefit of the graphics being reusable can often offset the cost of the substrate.
  16. Advice Needed, Never Done THis Before

Color me simple but I just use the PVC/Sintra as my template. Use a 1/16" bit and it makes it pretty damn accurate.
  17. 4 ft x 8 ft commercial real estate sign

Latex/Acrylic is not nearly specific enough. While very little innovation has been done with oil based paints, latex paints have changed a lot over the last 20 odd years. They are constantly messing with it to get it to cover better, last longer, dry faster, lower VOC, make it scrubbable, and...
  18. 4 ft x 8 ft commercial real estate sign

It's likely the paint you used. The paint is either not full dry or you used something with a bunch of additives in it that prevent the vinyl from sticking. Try Sherwin Williams All Surface Enamel or Super Paint. Both are proven to work well with vinyl.
  19. Wooden sandblasted sign 120″ x 60″ restoration pricing.

I assume you have a local vendor to work with? Shipping a 5x10 sign with the crating isn't exactly cheap. I'd also verify that price per foot is valid. Larger signs = thicker HDU = higher cost. Also I'm just going to throw it out there, installing a HDU sign should be more expensive than...
  20. 3 days until inauguration

Two Editions of 'Wall Street Journal' Bear Opposite Headlines About Trump : snopes.com What's the difference in effect between the two WSJ headlines: 'Trump Softens His Tone' and 'Trump Talks Tough on Wall'? - Quora But again, let's not let facts get in the way of a good Facebook conspiracy...
