It'll work OK with XP SP2 and a laptop. You just need a real LPT plug on the back of the PC, and a real printer lead.

I've not had success with serial leads- you need a special Roland one, or do a search here- I posted the pin-out diagram some years ago- it's not a straight-through serial lead, but has some crossovers. Parallel printer leads are less finicky.

It's easy to lose the circlip...and undoing it is the easy part- putting it all back together is the harder half of the equation!

I would ditch the USB to parallel lead, and get a PC with an old LPT and use that, with a standard old printer lead.

We bought a 4 HP rotary phase converter recently- it is great. Neither the PC, nor the router motherboard & joystick control the spindle though- its speed is set via a separate manual on-the-wall control knob & switch. We don't use the Vac. motor which was a 7 hp one.

A freind of mine got one (P-cut) I think it took five months (just as well he was retired) to get it to where it would work. Stuff didn't happen the way the manual said it would. It's fine now, but was a headache getting is going. There's a big lot of fans of it in UK, on the UK sign forums...
