  1. What to do?

Jesus you guys are overkill lol. The printer is completely self sufficient as long as you leave the main power on. It'll clean itself once a day....just make sure there's ink in the cartridges. We left ours for a month, came back and it was still 100%. That's what they're designed to do.
  2. Sheet media length detection?

Unsure on this but if you know the size of the sheet, you can set the "custom cut" setting in versa works instead of leaving it on "custom roll" and manually plug in the length. That should get you by in the meantime.
  3. Roland VP-540 Cyan overspray

Is the file you are printing a vectorized eps/ai/pdf or are you printing a raster file (jpg, tiff, etc) ?? It almost looks like it could be artifacting too from printing a raster image.
  4. Roland VP-540 Cyan overspray

This to me looks like a static problem. Try unplugging your machine's main power cord for an hour. Then plug it back in and print. Also you can get copper tassels that hang on the back of the machine and float just above the vinyl coming into the machine, or some people have said dryer sheets...
  5. Correct PAINT for Vinyl applied to walls?

Well I'm glad to know I'm not the only one who sees no consistency in what paints work and don't work
  6. Correct PAINT for Vinyl applied to walls?

yes and that absolutely helps every time...we started doing that a couple years ago
  7. VersaCAMM SP-300i Banding / Print Issues w/Photos

That's definitely good to know about the dampers. My blue also has a perfect test print but tends to band (no one but me notices) and it drives me nuts. Maybe I'll swap dampers on my machine and see if that fixes it. Any other ideas?
  8. Correct PAINT for Vinyl applied to walls?

low tack transfer tape may be the ticket...as of now we're just using the standard 16-18oz tack and I suppose it may be time to start carrying another roll of something with less tack. Any recommended low tack brands?
  9. Correct PAINT for Vinyl applied to walls?

exactly. The problem is that when we do get a wall that REALLY sticks well, we try asking the business owner and 100% of the time they hired a painter and have no idea what paint it is. My only observation so far has been that vinyl sticks far better to matte paint over gloss paint. We've...
  10. Correct PAINT for Vinyl applied to walls?

Hey Guys...for the last eight years we have been doing a TON of wall installs. Some wall stick like a dream, and some are pesky as hell to get the transfer tape off without pulling the vinyl off. We're using 651 direct applied to the wall in most cases (this isn't up for debate), and have never...

    ...tell me more?!
  12. service mode protected

someone posted this a long time ago and I saved it.
  13. Roland SP-300V

Encoder strip needs cleaning (or flip it if it hasn't been flipped yet after cleaning it really good with alcohol), possibly dirty reader eye on the carriage that reads the strip.....and/or is your printer on a good surge protector? Could be static built up that's being released when you unplug...
  14. Don't bother if you're married to OEM Ink

No he did not. That's why I quoted it before he changed it...he said buy 300 Liters, get a couple XC540. This guys is as shady as they come.
  15. dark grey printing brownish

Only thing I can think of at this point is a possible ICC problem. There's NO WAY that this dramatic of a change from grey to brown overnight are due to environmental changes and the profile not compensating. You've printed this file, on this media, with this profile before and it came out...
  16. Burned out

i definitely feel you. I tried the whiteboard method with these rows Job, Quoted, Designed, Printed, Laminated, Cut, Due Date, Install Date (check marks on each of the quoted, designed, etc) But then I realized die-cut doesn't really fit into any of that and it all works for print stuff only...
  17. Don't bother if you're married to OEM Ink

I hope someone calls your bluff! Who needs a couple free XC540??
  18. dark grey printing brownish

That's also a good suggestion...I don't think it'll fix but it's worth a try. Unplug the actual power cord from the printer for 30 minutes and restart the rip computer. Try printing again.... Let me ask you this -- aside from the GREY in that print job, are all the other colors coming out ok...
  19. Don't bother if you're married to OEM Ink

LOL i was just thinking that. So when someone calls do you give them the third degree and ask open ended questions that you know have correct answers like "when was the last time you swapped your dampers out?" Customer then replies "oh like a year ago, since they didn't need replacing" and...
  20. dark grey printing brownish

Yikes - if it's a fresh document, then I'm out of ideas. What document TYPE? pdf? eps? And what rip? Could be an ICC issue too, but I doubt it....
