  1. Is anyone from SAI online here?

I'm using the kind that have the legs pointing out. I set the origin point in the middle of the first one. It usually finds it. I've got the speed set real slow. Did some cutting today at 4cm/s.

Cadmn, you're one of the lucky 97%... Jen's profoundly hearing impaired, and I think they sold her a lot more than she thought she was getting. I think she thought it was just a magic procedure that'd make her lose weight. She has Great Faith in modern medicine, whereas I spent enough time...

Well, I'm generally lazy - I've gotta coupla thumbnail thingies that shipped with collections, so I'll click the first one I see... Or I'll just do a quick filename search - "pumpkin" will return a bunch... then it's just windoze and icons...

Okay. I feel inadequate. But it's still cool.
  7. Cool gizmo of the day

Western Digital is selling an external drive that plugs into your ethernet, and is accessed over your network. Best Buy's got 'em right now for $150ish. Just installed it for my upstairs computer, and looks like it's going to be a great file sharing resource. I'm basically going to keep three...
  8. $5000 startup

Yeah. The snake oil salesmen at the local "get a business and buy a mcmansion" trade shows, tend to tell you that all you have to do is buy their gizmo... They don't tell you a darn thing about the fact that the stuff that you produce actually has to look good... The folks who buy into...

A decent digital camera is your friend. Get one you can carry in your pocket. People will look at you like you're nuts when you take a picture of just a sign, but hey...
  10. ValueJet refill inks

Yeah, if you're under warranty, just stick with "real" ink... But when things start looking a little low again, I'm getting some Lavaink to try out. They've got decent word of mouth. There's no way I'm using anything other than OEM in my Epson... I just wish that they had larger than 220ml...

  14. Suggestions for DOT lettering font in short space

No. It has to be legible. Look for a "condensed bold" or "condensed heavy" font. Custom kern it. Does the USDOT need to be the same size as the number? Does it need to be on the same line? Because I can fit it on two lines no problem. Or if you could make the USDOT smaller...
  15. ANOTHER Juice Drops deal $9.99 Heads up

And if you have enough of them... Hard drive space is cheap. Buy an external drive, and dedicate it to your clipart collection. No, wait, buy two, and stick one in the safe...
  16. ANOTHER Juice Drops deal $9.99 Heads up

The disks I got are "nothing but" PSD images and TIFF images, so you should be able to use them in Corel. VERY nicely thought out.
  17. ANOTHER Juice Drops deal $9.99 Heads up

Oooh... Bogie paid for fedex. Bogie impressed.

  19. Performance Increase - Best Bang for the Buck?

I -hate- the artifacts that you get with jpegs. My new Canon, even with the compression set to "highest quality" drops crap in... Which means that I can do about a 24x36 with it. The same as I could do with the 3 megapixel one that I gave to the Teenager From Hell.
  20. Ocr

Yeah, but for the amount of text that we generally deal with, why bother? I do a lot of scientific stuff - poster presentations, etc... The stuff is allegedly in English, but no automated proofreader can deal with it. And when you throw in the symbol fonts...
