  1. Etched Vinyl to edge of window...

I've done several like this. The one issue I always have is the unevenness of the rubber gaskets around the window. Pay close attention to really only lay your knife on the side/edge of the gasket and not cut part of it off or it will show. *Also, another tip I can share is to wait about a...
  2. [KCMY]S/C ReadErr on a Mutoh 1204

My guess would be you have a loose cable or one that perhaps got some ink on it, etc. that is causing it not to read correctly. Go back, double-check all your connections and report back.
  3. Cutting - there's got to be a better way!

Depends on your cutter, and if it has that feature. You basically add a cut line in your print file like you would for a contour cut but label it for what is require by your RIP/cutter and the cutter does the rest.
  4. Cutting - there's got to be a better way!

Yes, this: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uaspxzwZ8iM *However, printing and cutting things down with a straight edge is pretty much a requirement of this industry. If you have hundreds or thousands of labels to trim out then using something like a Summa/Graphtec/Roland will definitely help.
  5. Well, I finally did it, and it's finally put together...

You already know I'm chomping at the bit to see this thing run. Happy for you and I hope it's the ticket for what you need it to do. :thumb:

    That..is...nuts...:omg:
  7. Another Mutoh Profile question... faded & washed out prints

To print the red and blue are you using a CMYK mix or a Pantone spot color?
  8. Another Mutoh Profile question... faded & washed out prints

Sorry to be late to the party. To me it seems either your ICC profiles or your print files are to blame. Both my 1204 and 1604 would have no problem hitting that blue or red on the right. Try switching from SWOP to AdobeRGB 1998 and see what that does for you.
  9. Mutoh 1204 Not printing magenta

Yeah, in my experience the ecosol ink is pretty forgiving and usually you can get it cleared up with soakings, and cleaning cycles. *TIP - I leave my side cover on my 1204 off so I have easy access to the head/MS/drain lines. This way I can visually see if anything is getting clogged/dirty...
  10. Mutoh 1204 Not printing magenta

Where to start...? OK, a few things you've said make me suspect your maintenance station is shot. Have you ever replaced it? Without a good working MS the Valuejets can have all kinds of problems. Your MS is what keeps suction on the head when it's parked, and the pump of course is what...

    Happy Birthday Jill!
  12. Mutoh 1204 Not printing magenta

Firstly, there are no subtanks or filters on a 1204. If the OP is referring to dampers, they could need replacing if you're up to 2+ years on them. (It's a good thing to do as far as maintenance goes.) However, your main concern is "why" you ran out of magenta ink in the first place - or why...
  13. Another Mutoh Profile question... faded & washed out prints

Not to argue, but JetBest's SKY ecosol is a 99% match to OEM Mutoh/Roland ink. I've been running it for years in my 1204 and the only major difference I see is better reds with more solvent smell. I am running Wasatch SoftRIP with mostly canned profiles and produce vibrant, rich colors...
  14. Another Mutoh Profile question... faded & washed out prints

Not familiar with that material - do you also experience this on other media or just this one? What RIP are you running and what does your nozzle test look like?
  15. what shop truck to buy?

I've got a 2011 1/2 ton Chevy 4x4 extend cab with 8' bed and an A.R.E. aluminum contractor cap. I feel it is a very good vehicle for my needs. I don't usually pull anything stupid heavy so a 3/4 ton or 1 ton is unnecessary, and the 1/2 ton gets way better gas mileage. Having a 4x4 was a must...
  16. Mimaki JV33-160 vs. Mutoh VJ1624

Honestly, both are good printers. I am partial to Mutoh - but I know Mimaki builds a much more robust machine. They both are very close in many regards, but there are some key differences. The Mimaki uses a DX5 printhead and the 1624 uses a DX6. (Cost to replace a DX6 will likely be higher.)...
  17. need help figuring a price bracket for small sticker?

Are these cut vinyl, or printed? If printed, I just go by a flat rate per square foot, doesn't matter what size decal. If cut, I pretty much do the same thing, but price will vary by the quantity and amount of detail/weeding/work involved.
  18. 4'x8' coroplast

    This +1
  19. Huge thanks to FatCat FatCat

Lol, thank you and glad to be of help. The more I tinker on my machines the better I understand them. I feel if you're going to print with solvent machines you better have a good grasp on how they work and how to fix them. I try to keep mine in the best shape possible, but even so...
  20. Transfer Tape Not Sticking!

This is where I'd call "BS". Transfer tape has to stick (even somewhat) to backer otherwise it would be useless. Obviously, it isn't going to stick as well as it will the surface of the vinyl, but c'mon....
