  1. Quick question on Fellers banner tape

I can vouch that this is good tape. I usually order 10-15 rolls at a time, about 1/2 the cost of tape from Fellers or Grimco and I actually like this stuff better than Grimco's because it has a heavier paper backer and is easier to peel. Reminds me, I need to order some more, I think I'm down...
  2. Alternative to Matthews Paint on PVC due to fading

How much time has elapsed where the fading has occured? Did this sign face the South or West where it is getting more exposure? Realistically, nothing lasts forever - I would assume most paints would show considerable fading after 5-10 years regardless. Even automotive finishes start looking...
  3. Mutoh1204 banner profile using more ink?

Not sure what RIP software you're using, so not what these profiles translate to in regards to resolution or number of passes. In general, higher quality profiles use more ink - a 720dpi profiles uses less ink than a 1440dpi profile. Also, more passes, uses more ink. So if you're printing...
  4. Transfer Tape Not Sticking!

Yes, as the weather gets warmer medium tack transfer tape isn't as sticky as it is at cooler times of the year. Switching to a high tack tape will help.
  5. grizzily T10687 TRACK SAW with 160mm 56t aluminum/plastic blade. Any one try it ?

Can't say firsthand about the Festool, but I am certain they make a quality tool. I've had my DeWalt track saw for over a year and a half and really couldn't live without it now. Very quiet, smooth motor - I really like the smooth start feature. I've cut MDO, PVC, Max-Metal, 10mm coro, light...
  6. Giving away the farm/Sign shop..... Very Scary

Not to be a smarta**, but I just received an email this morning with Grimco's "Friday Specials". Online price for finish painted 1-side MDO (1/2") is $60.95/sheet - ON SALE!!! (Regular price is $73.95/sheet) I agree $350 is a little higher than I would be for a 3' x 5' sign - but certainly in...
  7. Mutoh valuejet 1204 print problem-need help please!

If around your head and capping station (the rubber gasket) are clean then you're good there. Next, remove your side cover so you can see everything in there. (I pretty much keep mine off all the time because it's a PITA to work in there.) Once you have your cover off, run a cleaning cycle...
  8. Mutoh valuejet 1204 print problem-need help please!

You can pull your black cartridge and check if you have ink... Could be a crack or air leak in the black line, but since you're machine is so new it is doubtful. You likely are getting a poor seal around the head and capping station due to clogged drain lines or gunk around the head and cap...
  9. printing media and vinyl costs

Hmm, that is puzzling. Whatever the reason it can't go on for long. If they've worn out their welcome with local suppliers it won't be long before they do the same to the manufacturers. If they are undercutting and not paying their other bills, they won't last either. Not a good long term...
  10. printing media and vinyl costs

I have a hard time understanding how they could sell at a such a drastic discount. Especially when you say they are selling installed wraps cheaper than you can buy the material??? It can't be the same material. From what I have heard from some of the bigger shops, companies like 3M will sell...
  11. VJ-1204 Ink Smart Card, Chip fix

I think you misunderstood. The card issue is for people running bulk ink carts like these: http://www.lavaink.com/Mutoh-Ink/mutoh-valuejet-bulk-ink-system.html DO NOT ATTEMPT TO PULL OFF CARDS FROM REGULAR CARTRIDGES!!! :omg:
  12. Need a New Laminator

Agreed. I am one of many who love and admire the price and simplicity of the US Tech laminators. Now, they might not be the best fit for a large shop, but for a small to mid sized shop I doubt anyone can do better in terms of price or value. The darn things just work. I can run an entire...
  13. VJ-1204 Ink Smart Card, Chip fix

I think mine is on 1.17. Won't do any harm to try it. While your machine is on and sitting idle (not printing or processing) yank a card out and see if it beeps. If it does, you know, if it don't you're good.
  14. VJ-1204 Ink Smart Card, Chip fix

Been running bulk inks for over 2 years so I'm going to part with a dirty little Mutoh secret in regards to the 1204/1304/1604/1614... If you are running bulk carts that take the chip inserts and are running older firmware you only need the cards to START your machine. Once it goes through...
  15. choosing a cutter

    +1 :goodpost:
  16. Anyone else just totally slammed right now?

Yup busy, busy, busy... First quarter we were swamped with small jobs - pays the bills but seems like you work twice as hard for the same money. Now, we're booked up for the next 2 weeks and phone keeps on ringing. The difference is these are bigger jobs (for us) and as a 2 man shop we can...
  17. Employees, need advice on taking the next big step with my business...

Glad you brought this up and I am happy to reply... Well, it's been quite a challenge and change for me. It seemed to take forever, but my guy is finally able to produce about 60-75% of the most common items we do here unattended. (Banners, coroplast signs, panel signs, car/truck lettering...
  18. What is best tool to cut multiple sheets of 1/16 " polycarbonate sheets?

I would vote for a track saw - I love my Dewalt. I've stacked up to 6 sheets of 3mm max-metal at a time and goes through it no problem. Just have to make sure you clamp the pile down so it doesn't shift on you.
  19. Looking to hire my 1st employee .. - Not sure where to start-

Yeah, just started going through that beginning of this year. Definitely has been an eye open-er. The sad fact is, nobody cares as much about your business as you. Sadly, A lot of younger people (18-28) seem to look at a job as an inconvenience and something they do to pass the time until...
  20. Van graphics pricing in the ballpark?

Agreed, really not that complicated to do. But if you can get your price, be happy!
