  1. Discussion Why is this so common in most threads concerning costs........................??

And yet we all have a great time doing it! Wouldn’t change a thing, can’t wait to choke down some candy corn that tastes like cardboard. We love to hate it haha!
  2. Looking for a "good" X-Acto knife?

What about Frank's toe knife? Seems like a fine tool for signage...
  3. Looking for a "good" X-Acto knife?

No OLFA fans here? I've had the same one for 11 years and love it....I actually carry 2 knives...the OLFA with the "art" style blades and a generic utility knife (got a freebie from Glantz that I currently use). So I'll use the utility knife for packaging, rough cutting, cardboard, and the...
  4. Let's see your own company vehicle wraps and graphics!

They are an ugly beast no doubt about that, but I do love how functional...can cram a lot of crap in em!
  5. Let's see your own company vehicle wraps and graphics!

And here's one that we just finished today for the shop I currently manage....it was something we threw together quick b/c we didn't have anything on the vehicle at all. So I'm not as big a fan of this one, but it's still kinda cool I guess, has it's merits.
  6. Let's see your own company vehicle wraps and graphics!

haha yup squitoes are bad in these here parts haha....thanks Tim!
  7. Let's see your own company vehicle wraps and graphics!

Thanks Tex! You make me blush as red as the truck haha!
  8. Let's see your own company vehicle wraps and graphics!

Thanks much! I liked it for the same reasons. I usually say "no to faux" but I did want to show off the capabilities of a digital print. I also wanted to kind of bring two demographics together....the OG sign painters with the younger digital guys. So it kind of throws back to the old "woodies"...
  9. Let's see your own company vehicle wraps and graphics!

Here's one I did a few years ago for a company I used to work for....
  10. second surface print acrylic installation

Yes my suggestion still makes me a little nervous as well, definitely better than the original thought but still not what I would call ideal by any means. Edge grip stand offs would be a great solution, and in my opinion I like the added "class" that standoffs provide, there are so many finishes...
  11. second surface print acrylic installation

Reducing the thickness by half will of course cut the weight in half...so that's definitely a good idea. But even at that I still wouldn't feel completely comfortable with it for the long term. I don't necessarily worry about the VHB failing but more the paint/sheetrock peeling up and causing...
  12. second surface print acrylic installation

is it backlit? if so you will probably see the VHB. Also and more important...a 4' x 4' piece of acrylic is very heavy and should never be secured with just tape/adhesive, it will eventually fall and hurt someone. I'm not sure of a good way to hide fasteners on a piece like that, maybe somebody...
  13. Need a profile for Oracal 3165RA

Haha I’m not a fan of either Corel or Versaworks...that’s more of my personal taste/experience though...but you should have the color management options available in your workflow...I started at a new shop in January and they were using versaworks with their Roland...I switched them to Onyx and...
  14. Need a profile for Oracal 3165RA

Quite possibly yes, though I haven’t tried it. My hunch would be that they would help but not perfectly. Best solution is a properly calibrated profile but sometimes easier said than done. My go to is to view the finished product in the environment it will be displayed, typically outdoors...
  15. Need a profile for Oracal 3165RA

I print 3165RA with GCVP profile on an XR640 everyday. Very good profile for any white vinyl on a Roland. If you're greys aren't neutral (either pinkish or greenish) then it's possibly a hardware issue with the heads...i.e. some jets are weak....OR you're profile needs to be recalibrated...
  16. What machine to print this?

Or a Gerber Edge...some kind of heat/foil transfer printer.
  17. Is Flexi the only RIP for HP Printers?

I've never used Flexi, but I love ONYX. I've ran HP Scitex and HP latex machines (among other brands as well) using ONYX. It's has a lot of great features and is compatible with a ton of equipment. I especially like the color management features it offers. But anyway HP and ONYX do play very...
  18. Don't waste time with high quality

Also agreed 100%. In my shop it's considered a mistake to over kill the quality. Know and prepare your customer's expectations and don't waste your or their time over killing the quality. In our shop we have 3 short hand terms for the quality expected.....billboard quality, regular quality, and...
  19. Would A CNC Work?

CNC with a drag knife works but CNC with router bit is less viable. The drag knife can be used to score the mag and then it's easy enough to weed them out. But if cutting using a regular router it will cut fine but it will generate a lot of magnetic chips that will then stick to everything...
  20. Hanging 2'x3' Corrugated Plastic Signs

Stinger board is the brand name for it, nice stuff. But the price is comparable to a 1/4" PVC which would probably make a nicer sign than the stinger, the profile edge of the stinger shows some corrugations. The PVC is heavier but still plenty light to be hung from a drop ceiling or otherwise.
