  1. Text Box

go to "VIEW" and click "HIDE BOUNDING BOX" Another thing, is the tracking wide, or do you have the text grouped with anything else? or is it masked with anything? That could also threw it off
  2. Text Box

When you type out your text, do you drag a text box? By software default, there is a bounding box, I prefer not to have it on... do have you bounding box on? If it's a text box, it's an easy fix, copy your text… deselect, then paste... the only issue after that is the bounding box.
  3. Best wall vinyl for use in medical facility?

I've mis-clicked on my phone a few times... Does your state have special requirements for fire rating... in California, we have OSHPD. They can be fickle about fire rating and percentages of materials on the wall...

  5. Are vehicle wraps in decline?

Seems like digital print is "entry level" for the sign business nowadays... With entry level designers trying to copy better designers, your gonna get messy wraps installed poolrly. We just had a thread, typical of most new sign people with a printer, where a new company started with no real...
  6. Signlab VS Illustrator

As an observation, you have been on Signs101 for 9 years, what have you been using the whole time? Do you design more than signs? Are you self taught in design software? If it's Signlab, and you have not learned it yet, I would think any software where you can get online or classroom...

  8. What Is A Good Bold Font For A Power Sports Repair Shop?

I can give you hundreds of suggestions but: What are they called? Some typefaces look better than others depending on what the name is (I know, you probably don't want to reveal that) If you are going to have the name AND list services, you might want a typeface with a lot of weights...
  9. Translucent vinyl shows LED hot spots

Just have to ask, did you paint the inside of the cabinet? My gut says not enough LED's, did you follow the recommended modules per square inch? You might try this... https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DdJcq17u4fQ
  10. Do you guys sell "blank substrates" to retail customers? Customer Rant...

All the sign shops I worked at had a minimum charge... and most of the shops, only regular customers were charged time and materials, walk-ins were charged the minimum... some were as high as $75.00
  11. A couple recent fun jobs

    Very nice... thanks for sharing!
  12. Permits for sign installation

Illinois is kinda quirky because you can register with the county or city, if I remember right, there is not a huge process like we have in California. Are you a licensed sign contractor? If you are pulling the permit, you do the work. In some counties, the client isn't saving much if...
  13. 20 Questions To Ask Clients Prior To Designing A Logo

Gino's car story is a good example of commodity thinking... most people buying a car know exactly what they want, they are just looking for the best deal... logos/branding/marketing? not so much. Quite a few sign shops are commodity designers (shelf full of clip art, hard drive full of fonts)...

  16. Hi from San Diego

On not being able to work at a place like RSM because you have no degree... I say Phooey! If you are very good, a degree means squat... (notice how I say very good) Though I think a degree is important, it really depends on the school... Art Center, Otis, CalArts are premier art schools in...
  17. ADA Sign System Options

Most "higher class" ADA signs are designed by a qualified designer... Don't know if there is such a thing as a high class stock sign but you might also try Takeform. They have some great stock sign solutions and I believe design as well. http://www.takeform.net
