using cmyk will limit your printers colors. the printer can hit more colors than is contained in he cmyk gamut. i use rgb mostly but there are times when cmyk is better.

a lot of rips have the contour cutting feature. i have only used flexi for that so i don't know exactly how it is done with the others. but you will need a RIP to drive your printer so if they give a good package deal with flexi included.... i have used wasatch rip when i work at a shop...

the 48" valujet will print the full 48" right (my falcon 48 will not) if so i don't think it would be limiting unless you wrap a lot of vehicles and need the 60+" to get the full hood with no seams. most of my signs are made from 4x8 substrates so i really only miss the larger print size...

are you opening the file in flexi and then hitting rip and print or are you opening in production manager and printing? if i open a jpg or tiff in production manager it sometimes get the size wrong... i think it has something to do with the resolution of the file? if i open in flexi and make...

so you have no blk, cyan or magenta ink coming out at all? or you have dropped nozzles? no ink at all is probably the ink lines, "o" rings ... something not get the lines primed for ink flow.

you have a lot of things not working on this design.. the drop shadow on the name is wht on wht. the drop shadow on the list have the light source coming from a different direction than the name... too many different fonts. try to limit the fonts to 2 or 3 and not so many different...

are you printing from flexi? or are you designing in flexi and using rolands rip? it sounds like a color workflow problem somewhere... color settings and design color space...

i've had that vertical banding... it was the heaters in my mutoh falcon. i think tecdaddy/prowraps had a thread with heater issues on his valujet. and some form of this banding...

only black will cover... i like the transparent colors over the gold though. it makes it look like a candy paint job. i thought that was part of the allure?

if you do a lot of editing in PS, illy etc... it will pay for its self quickly in time saved. i have upgraded to the cintiq12wx... and it is worth it if you do a lot of custom stuff, such a time saver when masking or painting in PS or you can draw with the vector blob brush in illy...

i feel for you... i had a similar situation with my falcon. after pulling ink to the dampers and then thru the capping station, changing the dampers and o rings.... it finally came back. it was a learning experience though. so now you know how and when to pull ink with the syringe...
