The simplest way I find of doing what you ask, is to select the stop sign (in colour), with no feathering to the selection. Then type ctrl-shift-I (invert selection) then type ctrl-shift-u (desaturate) and that's it, done. Not the best image, but the simplest method. The duplicating a layer...

Years ago I was looking at getting one. The salesman selling it (new) actually advised me against it. He later sold me a 2nd hand Camm-1 which was by far better for our future needs than the sticka would ever have been.

PMG, you can further optimise gif files for the web if you slice them up, as you may find certain segments can handle a heavier degree of compression without important loss, and you keep the better detail for the text where it is needed. You'll need to read up on slicing, though. I'm not sure...

Thanks Doug, I wondered about those Xs too, when I started getting them- I hate snap-to. I see the benefit in it, but I hate it for general stuff. With the fonts, can you right-click in the list ,and go "sort" , or something like that? I'm just guessing, I haven't tried it.
