  1. Apparently Ohio State and college football in general isn’t very popular in Tennesse

If you think that's bad, I can tell you stories about wearing an OSU hat (the one in my avatar) on a 4 day fishing trip in Michigan... Now those people REALLY hate us! :)
  2. My new toy!!!

Congrats on the purchase, as a happy Summa owner myself I know you'll be pleased!
  3. Looking at aquiring a Rockhopper 2 what problems???!!!

Would it be usable? Yes. Would it be a wise investment? Probably not. If it were me, I would steer clear of the older Mutoh's due to their troublesome reputation. Another business owner I know across town has one and seems to have nothing buy trouble keeping it running. After operating the...
  4. Mutoh 1304 no Magenta Printing

Yes, that's good. If they look "close" to the right color you can probably stop and start printing again on jobs that aren't color critical. You may notice your reds printing a little dark for a while, but after a few banners, etc. it should totally clear up and be back to normal. As I...
  5. Mutoh 1304 no Magenta Printing

No, soaking the head is usually only done in the case of clogged/missing nozzles. The soaking action tends to soften any dried ink or plugs in the nozzles and allows them to come loose with regular cleanings. To get rid of cross contamination you just need to keep running the offending...
  6. Mutoh 1304 no Magenta Printing

Agreed, this should remedy the situation for now and clean out the problem. If it doesn't then you know something is majorly wrong with the print head and it needs replaced. However, if you do get it fixed you then have to figure out what made this happen in the first place or it may happen again.
  7. Employees, need advice on taking the next big step with my business...

Gino, many thanks for those great answers. I appreciate you taking the time to be so thorough. Would certainly like one day to be in the shoes that you and Mike at Insignia are, but it's taking that first step that is proving to be the most difficult for me. Mike, I know you know as I've been...
  8. Employees, need advice on taking the next big step with my business...

**Sorry in advance for the lengthy post** Since starting my business in 2009 I've had steady, yearly growth of 15-20% per year, but grew nearly 50% last year adding a 2nd printer and picking up several big accounts. Of course this growth was wonderful, and many of you might be asking "What's...

Personally, I haven't shut down a printer for long term storage. However, I assume it would just be a matter of purchasing 4 cleaning cartridges and doing a complete flush of the entire machine's ink system. Once completely purged of ink you should have little worry about anything drying up...
  10. New router build CRP4848 4x4 Kit

Cool thread, very interested to see how this turns out.
  11. Ink Carts 50% full but need to be replaced. HELP!

OK, so have you run more than 1 ink cart through the printer and this is ALWAYS happening? Or, is this the first set of carts in the printer and you haven't replaced any yet?
  12. Ink Carts 50% full but need to be replaced. HELP!

It won't be a problem as long as you pay close attention to it. If your cart is still approx 1/4 full there is quite a bit of printing you can do with that ink. Unless your printing most of the day, or have a huge job to run, I would think you could just keep weighing the cart(s) every night...
  13. Ink Carts 50% full but need to be replaced. HELP!

The quick answer is to always have a few spare cards (CMYK) laying around for situations like this. If your carts read zero and you know there is ink still in them you can swap cards and go back to printing. The downside of course, is that doing this you never know exactly how much ink is left...
  14. Swabbing the Printhead 1204

Also, make sure to do the bottoms and sides of both ramps to the left and right of each head. Those can build up ink over time and cause problems too. After you're done always inspect for a flashlight especially looking for any dust/hairs/lint around the head, ramps or edges that can wick ink...
  15. Grimco-- no Warranty!

Briteline lam and print vinyl is what it is, at best an economy product. I wouldn't use it for anything but VERY short term stuff like yard signs, foam core, down and dirty decals, etc. Not sure who told you IJ-35 is suitable for anything on a vehicle but they are dead wrong. If it's going...
  16. Cutting .010-.020 Polycarb Sheets

I use my Dewalt track saw for lexan faces all the time. Does a really nice job and makes smooth clean cuts. (Much cheaper and way better for lexan, poly-metal, PVC, wood, etc. than a Keencut or Fletcher unit.) http://www.thewoodwhisperer.com/videos/dewalt-tracksaw-review/
  17. VJ 1204 Carriage bearing clip broken

Who did you buy your 1204 from? Typically, if they're a Mutoh dealer they should be able to order it for you. Believe it or not, SignWarehouse has a huge inventory of parts for the 1204, though I'm not sure if that part is something they stock - but they just might.
  18. valujet 1204 E067 error (pf encoder)

Lol, glad I could help. :Welcome: These machines seem complicated at first, but all it takes is getting your hands dirty a few times to learn there really isn't much to them. Keep your encoder, rails, head and maintenance station/lines as clean as possible. This is usually the cause of...
  19. Used summa any good?

Summa has a reputation of being the "Mercedes" of cutters. IMHO Their tracking and cutting accuracy are the best of any roll cutter out there. Plus, they are super reliable and have the absolute BEST tech support of any brand I've ever used.
  20. valujet 1204 E067 error (pf encoder)

I apologize, my problem was the CR encoder not the PF encoder. However, I was still getting the E067 error, which I know can be a "catch-all" on these VJ machines. *Remember there is also a sensor on the encoder wheel as well. Please double check that the "eye" on this sensor is not cloudy or...
