Upon looking (Google), this seems to be fairly common on Macs. I am not sure why it doesn't affect PCs as much.

Yeah, many of my customers seem to have a heard time with SW tech support. I usually try to help them out if I can instead of them pulling their hair out.

Not much wear and tear in sleep / hibernation, but virtually none when it is powered down.
I always close programs individually as well. This give me the chance to review my open files to make sure that I have saved them and also reduces the chance of potential file corruption during a hard...
I shut them all down every day. I don't use sleep mode. Power savings and less wear and tear. Monitors go off every night as well.
Might as well, less than 10 seconds to boot anyhow.
I like the thinking here. I am aware that there are quite a few folks out there using cracked versions of software for one reason or another. I would guess that most are really good people and would never consider stealing a anything else in their lives. I would even guess that most don't...
