Gotcha. I wasn't trying to be a smart@$$, just making an statement. It is hard to tell the difference over the Internet sometimes. As far as Alienware is concerned... lots and lots of $$$$$$$$.
  4. 10.5 upgrade

The check disk results should have been listed at the end of the test. Did you get a chance to read them? From your Device Manager screenshot, it looks like your chipset drivers have not be installed. Those are important. You can probably find them on a "Drivers CD" provided with the...

Same hardware key, but probably different password. They changed they passwords in 10.5.
  6. 10.5 upgrade

Did you get a new user id / password with the 10.5 upgrade? If I remember correctly, the 10.5 upgrades use a different key. If you want to give me a call, I can try and help you out.

COM surrogate is a generic error. But we can look at symptoms to help narrow it down. Since it pops up in image previews, it is probably a video driver issue and can most likely be fixed by either updating the video driver or rolling back the video driver. If neither of these work, then you...

I disagree completely. I find it far easier to get around in Windows 7 than any other previous Windows flavor. Less clicks all around and the instant search bar in the Start Menu is my favorite. On top of that the "Recent Places" link in Windows Explorer is huge time saver, no need to click...

Thanks Evan! I would be more than happy to help a fellow 101'er. We build systems specifically for large graphic design files. We design, test, and build for large files in Adobe, Corel, Flexi, etc. We are familiar with graphic shops needs and can help you figure out exactly what you need as...
  10. Flexi runs choppy? crashes

Flexi just might not work well with that particular video card or driver version. Both the choppiness and BSOD with with the ati2dvag.dll as a culprit are evidence of that. This is not a rock solid diagnosis, but a quick thought. I have never been a fan of ATI chipsets with graphic software...

  12. to use RAID or not to use RAID

I have seen many of you post that RAID (alone) is not a sufficient backup, which is true. BUT, a backup can be RAID (and often is).
  13. to use RAID or not to use RAID

There are so many types of RAID and scenarios, your question is really hard to answer. I would really have to know a lot more specifics to give you an intelligent answer. What are you trying to achieve?
  14. New Site Launch

I like how clean and "to the point" it is. Nice work.
  15. Question for the Computer Guru's?

I think that your friend has been misinformed. If you have Windows 7 (32 Bit), you can use a max of 4GB. If you have Windows 7 (64 Bit), you can practically use as much as your motherboard will recognize. You can right-click "Computer" and click "Properties" and it will state if you have 64 Bit.

  17. A different kind of before/after.

Wow! Whip the customer as well. It doesn't take a design genius to recognize ugly.
  18. New monitor!!!

Yes, you definitely get what you pay for. That being said, it still sux. Honestly, most monitors do have a 5 dead pixel clause in the warranty, even the major manufacturers carry this clause. Crazy huh? You just end up seeing it more in the "lesser" brands.
