just thought of one other thing. i've in many conversations with chinese oem's that the tech for dual dx5's is not as mature. you'll see this in the japanese oems as well. the firmware and the boards that drive 16 channels is a great load for the system that hasn't had the years of debugging...
  2. Vinyl Express III 72" eco solvent

did you see the pdf of the bema-jet in this thread? it seems to be the same design as the express copy. if you go this route i'd have a pre-emptive approach. get a price on the printer and spare parts. if things like slider boards are cheap ($150?) get some extra stuff for the years ahead...

that you will have to guess. even a printer supplier will probably leave it up to you. i doubt you need to do the ink lines. for that get those clear carts and agressively syringe solvent toward the carts from the carriage side. you can use anything, straight acetone, MEK, doesn't matter...

eventually it depends on the printer being purchased. such as the one i decided on, it was an individual design (not a copy) spec'd out with the finest parts. the veil has been lifted as far as the printer costing a fortune. after market parts, after market inks, chinese oems. there will be...

they carry the same tubing found in the printers at the same quality and also provide tubing that exceeds the OEM specs. same stuff without the label but cheaper. that really might not matter for regular use, but i am constantly replumbing, doing odd things so i go through lots of tube here...

myth of low quality parts i don't think we can paint all chinese, korean, etc oem's as "worse" than japanese oems. i have a printer that i've chosen from a chinese oem that will ultimately go on my flatbed. (currently because i've got so much linear motion building to do, i'm going to gut...

if you really want to stock up on lines go to smallparts.com they have every imaginable type of tubing. or you can buy it by the meter from suppliers. but with smallparts it's not considered "sacred" printer tubing so it's very cheap.

i appreciate all the compliments. i don't know if jv3 owners are gluttons for punishment or what. it's kinda like the car that just won't die and you don't want to make car payments. my latest endeavor is to gut an encad and run mimaki latex in it. just bought my victim 850 ten minutes ago...

right now the table i'm converting is 7' x 24'. but for technical reasons i may cut it down to 7' x 12' and turn the other side into a bit engraver or laser table (it used to be a laser table for etching glass).
  10. Vinyl Express III 72" eco solvent

you need the dx5 because they are so cheap to maintain. you can get a dx5 for $600 from china you'll need four $800 dx4 heads to do the same thing. a dual dx5 printer will print as fast as an eight head dx4 (very rare set up). and dx4s are very difficult to replace and calibrate to each...

from what i can tell, the roland gantry copy printers have copied roland firmware, the mutoh copies may be the same. i thought this was interesting. kind of a signs101.ru http://www.t-grafika.ru/cgi-bin/forum.cgi?board=inf_tech;action=display;num=1298284641
  12. Vinyl Express III 72" eco solvent

i'm not crazy about the vinyl express unit. looks like a mutoh copy. for a few hundred more you can get a lot better off market machine.
  13. Vinyl Express III 72" eco solvent

all i know is the 82" model was $8500 for the dual dx5, i'd figure the 72" is reasonable. asian companies are unusual. they prefer to message over email, and you need to message them in very simple (almost broken) english. you'll find yourself typing in chin-english after a while. avoid...

http://www.youtube.com/results?search_query=ultra9000&oq=ultra9000&aq=f&aqi=&aql=&gs_sm=3&gs_upl=226l2717l0l2990l9l9l0l3l0l0l255l995l1.3.2l6l0 nowadays, i'd trust a korean car over a japanese one. not sure if that applies for printers.
  15. Vinyl Express III 72" eco solvent

it looks okay. i did a lot of research (weeks that is) and from what i can tell, the best built (other then the major OEMs) dx5 printer is the ultra9000 made by wit-color. wit-color is a korean OEM and there is a lot of info about the printer out there. there was even a review on a russian...

the ink pumps come apart. there's a tube inside. clean out the tube, put it back together. the capping station, throw it in a bucket of acetone (add retarder if possible), heads will be about $1500 for the two, get after market wiper and dampers (i use solventinkonline, there are lots of good...
  17. Encad Novajet 700

none. i'm about to pick up an encad and experiment with mimaki latex inks in it and i'm facing the same issue. cheap printers with no rip.
  18. Encad Novajet 700

it's so sad that these die hard $400 printer require at least a $1500 rip. whatever happened to $500 simple rips? or am i just getting too old?
  19. Cap Height Adjustment

there are some pages in the service manual about how man millimeters you should see. there is a park, approach, and flash adjustment in the service menu. on mine i actually have the back propped up a little higher than the front. works much better with that horrible cam system they have on...
  20. Tired of Being told how much $$ you should make?

the ones that in my experience that you can't "do better" on are the big projects. usually rush, want extensive proposal work. just last month i did a $38,000 project (my portion was $19,500). i gave them $2500 off (my original bill was $22k). of all projects going back a year, this was the...
