i do wholesale only. my biggest issue with money is discounts. ultimately because the producer is on the beginning of the markup, the request is made "can you do a little better than that? this client ..." okay. so i decided that it's a big order and maybe that week i'm not booked. problem...
if you are in the market for a functioning jv3 160sp that is a good price. plus the cutter, it's a steal. just make sure the printer has a good test print. i heard once that the more ink dripped on a jv3 the better. not sure the entire logic pans out, but don't be afraid of a messy jv3. they...
well, let me rephrase. i will be printing 99% of the time in black and white. there will still need to be some kind of interface for the printer. what is the best/cheapest solution? i'm using an 850 for a proxy printer as i get the mechanical working on this diy flatbed printer. i'll...
dug around on the site. ...don't think they are in business anymore. i could also buy some out of date old rip if anyone has one. just running b&w mono files. so anything will do.
i've seen this thread blowing up the board but not looked at it until now. i am not a fan. the use of blue and black for a billboard is not optically a good choice. it will read dark in the daytime and even darker and less contrasty at night. print that current draft on some photo paper and...
i bet that SUV ink would also work well with a home built post cure set up. chemistry is always more complex than mechanical engineering. thanks to mimaki they are are really going after the ink side of the equation instead of just making another printer.
@rogueroller you'll need to do an air up platen for that. i've got some air up platens (22') for my jv3 with those blowers for "kiddie-scapes" it's loud but it a necessity to break the vacuum of a heavy flat sheet. medium weight sheets will just hover right off the edge of the table if you...
it's not often (or ever that an OEM gets in the mix)... thanks a lot for your candid information, you seem like a very straight forward guy. as far a a market driven approach, i'd suggest you start a thread asking just what the "home/small shop" user might be expecting from price/performance...
that is up to the OEM. the money is on the table. and i'm sure no one would expect their shop bot to run as flat and square as a high end cnc. my cnc isn't perfect and i don't blame shopbot. but shopbot has brought once expensive equipment to garages all over the country. a home built kit...
do you have the jv1631 service manual? i think i've emailed about 20 of those out in the last month. to check for capping alignment, paint the top of the caps with ink, park the head on the capping station. get a flash light and look for the imprint that the ink transferred to the bottom of...
an expensive long life head is never as good as a cheap short life head. you can not account for head strikes, users dripping a bit of ink in a bad place and frying the head, long term head degradation. the head should be disposable.
that's a great idea phototec. shopbot has become huge from offering home built cnc kits. i have an old school shopbot built from 2x8's and it works fine for me. i'm a big believer in ugly equipment. most of my equipment is repurposed stuff from craigslist and ebay. from an industry...
run the waste lines out side the machine individually. then drill four or six separate holes across the top of the waste tank. it's a great upgrade to be able to quickly access a single colors waste line quickly.
i need to build some vertical storage bins for substrates and scraps. i remember there was a really great thread with all kinds of photos of different designs.
does anyone have a link to that thread?
thanks in advance!

it really depends on what you do in your shop. if you have an employee that does lay ups on rigid stock practically all day every day. that machines is their "baby". ask them if they want to downgrade to a moving substrate vs moving roller machine. from an engineering standpoint moving the...
