I do this kind of work for several elevator company and I use phototex wihout laminate. Never had any problem/complaint. And yes, make the elevator shut down for work. It make me jump at several occasion when the people ''call'' the elevator.
You are right Pat. And there is also the glue type waterbase (3640) vs solvent (3850). I know I should use 3850, but the price difference is major between them. If only I had a good reason to not use the 3640, it would convinced me.

The ones I've saw was under the clear protection of the handrail. Like between the black and clear protection. Maybe give a call to the manufacturer of the escalator like OTIS. Maybe they could help you with this.

90% of my install will be outside. But for etched vinyl, i'll go inside. I have a job near my shop made of etched vinyl, installed outside with a lot of sunlight. Been there for 5 years now without any problems.
