  1. mactac... FDC..... ???? never heard of it till today~

Use FDC almost exclusively (probably from the same distributor you called). Never had a failure in over 10 years.
  2. Problems with my summasign D610

You don't have your ports configured correctly. Unplug everything off the cutter, including the power cord. Wait 5 minutes, then plug the power cord back in. Turn the cutter on and tell us what the screen says. If the cutter itself is ok, you'll get your normal startup screen. If that works...
  3. Aluminum Sign Welding/Brazing Newbie

Yep, those "welding rods" you use a torch with are not welding rods. They are simply a surface filler that, with luck, you might get to stick two pieces of thin stock together with. I've never been able to use that stuff as advertised. Use a proper welder - a spool gun with an argon gas shield...
  4. Problems with my summasign D610

If you power the cutter and the computer off, restart the computer, clear the cache, then power back up the cutter. The cutter's internal memory is (or should be) automatically wiped each time it's powered down then back up. Make sure there are no jobs in the queue in Flexi before you power back...
  5. Problems with my summasign D610

You may have to reload the USB convertor driver. If nothing else has changed, then it has to be a software issue, or the convertor went bad.. which doesn't happen too often.
  6. Best Reflective Technique

X2. Sub out the job to someone who is already set up to either screen or print on reflective. How many signs are you doing?
  7. Corel Draw or Adobe Illustrator?

A lot of the answers will probably be centered around what you were exposed to first. I have both Corel X5 and Illustrator C3. I only use the Illustrator on occasion when I get a .pdf or something that Corel has an issue with. I also use it to double check color specs. I grew up on Corel, ever...
  8. Corel and VBA applications

Yep, Dan just called and walked me through step by step. Great service, guys! Thank you!!
  9. Corel and VBA applications

Hello gang, I've been trying to get my older T750 with OPOS to "hook up" with my Corel installation (X5). I want to try to use the OPOS system as I've never used it before - never had a need to but am getting more requests for contour cut decals. Anyway, I downloaded the Summa cutter controls...
  10. Graphics on the windshield?

Think is correct - there is a small arrow somewhere on one vertical side of the windshield. Graphics can't be placed below that line. The wipers usually fall just short of that. If he wants it on the inside... then put it on the inside and collect his money. Collect his money again when he says...
  11. Differences in 3M CV3

Ok, that's what I sort of thought when I read the descriptions on the 3M site. I took 'compound curves' to mean 'deep channels' as well... obviously not! Thanks guys!
  12. Differences in 3M CV3

Went to order another roll of my 3M vinyl today and happened to notice on the core the product code was IJ380CV3 - I usually purchase the IJ180CV3 stuff. I didn't notice much difference in roll to roll, but I wasn't looking for any, either. What's the difference between the two other than price...
  13. New York state commercial vehicle decals??

Maybe that's just for trucks that roll into NYC and not New York State in general? Wasn't there a discussion not too long ago about trucks in the city having to comply with that code?
  14. Chrome wrap... it may be real this time...

Silver nitrate solution and a rinse of salt water (basically) to let the silver precipitate to the surface. Don't know what the primer treatment is, though... thought about trying a home mix to see what happens. Nothing ventured and all that!
  15. Chrome wrap... it may be real this time...

Probably, but then you'd lose some of it's "stretchiness".
  16. Chrome wrap... it may be real this time...

I've got a sample of the Alsa stuff. Very interesting... and very thick - like 4 mil or so. When I talked with the rep he said that it needs to be clearcoated for outdoor extended use... um.. no. But it does conform reasonably well.. just don't over-stretch it or it becomes very translucent.
  17. Us dot #

Knowing several highway inpectors... 3" is the requirement, in block letters in a contrasting color to the background. That said, so long as they can read it from the tower at the weigh station they'll sometimes let slide smaller copy. It's pretty subjective.
  18. SOPA Bill Bad or Good??

Huh.. I guess the loss of that many domains put a hurtin' on their profits: http://support.godaddy.com/godaddy/go-daddy-many-other-internet-leaders-oppose-sopa-pipa/?ci=56582
  19. Has anybody used PostCoats?

I use the ones jfiscus uses. Quick, easy and can be painted with the right prep. No more worrying about splits or knots in the wood.
  20. Who did it ?

I don't even see studs. I see a cleat and two hangers of some sort to the right...
