With current releases of Flexi, the driver isn't locked anymore. As far as I remember it was only locked with 8 and 10. Perhaps the right time to upgrade.

Try to calibrate media to improve the marker recognition. It's in the OPOS menu. For that, print a black rectangle of about 5 x 5cm. The cutter will read the black area and the background area and will calculate a contrast value. And will warn if the contrast can't be calibrated.

You can set this settings in the profile you use. So you don't need to do it everytime when starting a print. When I want to test settings, i clone the profile in the library and modify it.
