  1. Problems Installing CS3 Design Premium

I think that you might have misread something somewhere (or I did). I believe that Gates said something about a new OS being available in the next year. He didn't exactly say "desktop" OS, only OS. To me, that could be Windows 7, a new Mobile OS, a second realease of Vista (like they do with...
  2. Problems Installing CS3 Design Premium

Abandonding it? Gates announced that they are trying to get back on a 3 year schedule of new OSs. Vista was released in early 2007, so that would put it's replacement out in early 2010. I don't see any sign of abandonment. What part of Vista sucks? To me, it seems very much like XP with a...
  3. Problems Installing CS3 Design Premium

CS3 has been rock solid on our Vista systems as well. As long as you have a system that has a little horsepower, Vista has been hassle-free so far (18 months).
  4. No 64 Bit CS4 for Mac !

This should really be an "Adobe" thread though, not a Corel thread.
  5. Hardware Requirements for Digital Printing Workstations

You should be fine with 32 Bit XP (and 4GB of DDR2) if you are only running two printers. Three is the threshold that we have been seeing. That is where we are turing to Vista64 and Onyx. We ran into issues with Onyx 7.1 and XP64.
  6. No 64 Bit CS4 for Mac !

It took us a while to get the Adobe thing figured out on The Wrap Daddy. But I assure you, we have it figured out. The 32GB of RAM is a function of a server-based board, that is correct. Even though DDR2 is a bit faster than FB-RAM, you are generally limited to 8GB or RAM on a DDR2...
  7. Hardware Requirements for Digital Printing Workstations

I like Onyx too. The 7.1 version is Vista 64 compatible and runs very well with mutiple printers. Just be sure they have the driver for your printer. That way you can run as much RAM as you want and can really put some muscle behid your RIP jobs. Bootcamp.. smootcamp.. yeah, just what I...
  8. No 64 Bit CS4 for Mac !

Just got confirmation from the developers themselves. There will be no 64 Bit version of Photoshop CS4 for Mac at launch (or even at all). Macs may have to wait for the next version of Creative Suite. There will be a 64 Bit version for PC. So those of us with 64 Bit Windows can use more...
  9. Hardware Requirements for Digital Printing Workstations

I think that you are on the right track with the Intel solution. One system, built correctly will run several printers. The software question is relevant for the 32 Bit vs 64 Bit question. As far as: "Buy a Mac" goes... No 64 Bit CS4 for you Mac guys, only for Windows... Wonder how...
  10. Hardware Requirements for Digital Printing Workstations

What RIP software are you using? Multiple printers can be a challenge, depending on which software you are using. IDEAL hardware requirements vary for each software package. I know that they list "minimum" requirements, but they are usually not "ideal". We have built many custom RIP...
  11. Cant Open Large JPEGs in Illustrator

What is the exact wording of the error? I would tend to look at the scratch disk settings in Illustrator and your virtual memory setting (page file) in Windows. Look for low disk space on your drives. When PS and Illy run out of physical memory, they start pulling form a "scratch" drive for...
  12. Cant Open Large JPEGs in Illustrator

Yeah, that doesn't make sense. Do you have a seperate scratch disk setup in you prefs? Is is full? If you are using your C: drive as you scratch disk in your prefs, then is that drive nearly full? Can you "place" the .jpg?
  13. Running a Camm-1 CX-24 on a Vista Machine

If you already have Illustrator 10, then the cost of the upgrade shouldn't be that bad. $199 on Adobe's website : link to Illustrator page
  14. New Workstation Suggestions

What software packages are you using? We offer a few different models of workstations because every combination of software has different performance needs. To truely understand what would be the best performance oriented system for YOU, we like to include the software in our evaluation.
  15. Input on New System

No, no, no.... I want to forget Windows ME!
  16. Input on New System

For a rip only station, I would stick with the Core2Quad. Aside from the price of the processor, you will have higher priced hardware all around. Our Inferno is actually a beefy RIP station that can offer a significant increase in design speed if you are on a budget. You can see the specs...
  17. Input on New System

We have been testing Vista Ultimate 64 SP1 on our design systems for several weeks. I am really impressed so far. It has improved all of the data transfer issues that we were experiencing in the past. That being said, I still tend ot lean toward XP 64 unless you are 100% sure that your...
  18. Why even bother!!

As with everything, you get what you pay for. Western Digital has MANY different models of drives, all with different warranties, life expectancies, and failure rates. It is not always the brand, but more importantly, the model. External USB drives can be GREAT if you use them correctly...
  19. Setting up a network file server

I agree, for a small shop with limited needs, XP is fine. XPs built in backup is decent and simple as well. If you wanted user access control, advanced email, simplified remote access to your work computers (Remote Web Workplace), your own personal webmail (Outlook Web Access), Sync email...
  20. scratch disc

oh yeah... almost forgot. You should defragment your scratch drive often as PS will only use unfragmented space for scratch. I was doing a wrap design the other day, and my scratch file got to be over 75GB. The faster I can transfer to and from that scratch file, the better.
