We use our miter saw (same blade as circular saw) to cut. McGraw's precaution is good, we just make sure to cut the end of the vinyl that is away from the capping station. (so as the printhead will only cross the factory edge side of the vinyl roll).
I am with you. Used to feel bad for printers have to eat the cost with typos while we can just remove and replace the vinyl letters.
Was you print laminated? If not, and background is white, we use solvent to remove the print and apply vinyl letters on it.

I am thinking of using used can sign boxes and make a few of them, daisy chain them on the roof and connect to existing duct work.
Easier way to show customer & for printing only, we use "outline pen" tool. For example: first copy to assign .4" of black outline (check "behind fill"), then duplicate a copy in place, change the outline to .2" white. That's it.
Have you tried this alternative, print black on florescent vinyl?
We print black, red & reflex blue on yellow vinyl or yellow banners, inkjet printer can not get this vibrant yellow no mater how hard we tried.
Why would Mutoh do that (think HP's desk top inkjet printers)? They make more money selling ink cartridges than selling printers, hell, Prowrap, they should give you free printers for all the money they make off the inks. You probably use 10 times more than we do!
