  1. Finally taking time to work on something for myself.

I think of it as a good friend telling you that you have broccoli in your teeth. You can either take it out and look better, or you can leave it in. I for one would rather be told about the broccoli.
  2. Work in progress...

First one. Panel subcopy in white. Flip the balloon so the point thingy is coming out the other way to lead the eye into the layout. Change the red pinline inline in the name to white. The other choice has too many angles and doesn't need the yellow. Love....Jill
  3. Finally taking time to work on something for myself.

Guess I must have misunderstood this statement. I realized you were using the ovals to carry through, but I still think a traditional bullet would be best.
  4. Finally taking time to work on something for myself.

I'm sorry, I beg to differ. Lacks contrast. You have way too many fonts going on there. I'd lose the Banco on "Pro". Use the other font on that part instead (yes I know it's your logo) And yes I think diamond plate is outmoded at this point. Except on the fenders. Lose the gradients on the...
  5. Barber Sign Critique

Also try making all your lettering smaller, leave more breathing room. If "Arcade" is a display font, "Barber Shop" should be slightly simpler. Here is a quick muck about, I wasn't in the mood to draw a barber pole. I did two poles on my example because the one pole seems off balance to me...
  6. Barber Sign Critique

I would not make Richie's in red, no contrast. I'd move the A up a bit and put the barber pole on the other side.. I don't like how the A is overlapping it, and I don't like the shadow effect on the pole. I'd put the since 1953 under BARBER SHOP not have it dangling on the bottom. It does not...
  7. One-Shot paint on aluminum?

^Ditto to the max...what a maroon. I'd use the oil-based Ronan. I no longer use 1Shot. Really let it dry well if you are using a mask because you might pull up the paint. Love...Jill
  8. Thoughts, questions, concerns?

I still hate the phone number. It's too big, and lose the brackets around the area code as they clutter it up. The rest is good, I dislike seeing two scripts (the subcopy and the American Standard) but it can work with this layout. You've really improved since your early attempts. Love....Jill
  9. Vinyl on Tent

I'd paint it, using Ronan's Aqua Coat. First coat yellow top coat whatever the color is that they need. Love....Jill
  10. Does anyone close for Memorial Day?

Damn straight! I also get the day off from my "real" job so I am planning a little vacay. A very little one. Love....Jill

  14. Few recent challenges

You did good, man that corrugation looks like it would be a pain to paint. Love....Jill
  15. Al Checca...............

Gino, I think Al had to have emergency surgery on Monday. (complications on his arm from the dialysis) I'll PM you his address. Love....Jill
  16. faux Vintage sign folks.

Bonjour Mr. Z. Nice work there sir. This is something I would like to delve into. I've always admired the work of Mark Fair: http://www.markfair.com/flyingbiscuit/Biscuit_Menu.htm Now I have another Mark to admire. Love....Jill
  17. message to jill

Sorry about that. Someone emailed me a HUGE file while I was at work and it took up all my storage space. I cleared it all out. Thanks Mark. Jill
  18. A different kind of before/after.

Wow. His "designer"s version looks like sh!t! I'd re-name yours "Biff's", lose his name and phone number, and put it in your portfolio. I hope you didn't give the guy any files. Not that his wife allows him access to anything. Barf-o-rama. Love....Jill
  19. New Deli Sign

Nice work! A word of caution from a 27 year career of using 1-Shot though. (or should I say 25 years of it in a 27 year career) Try switching to Ronan lettering enamels for better longevity. Love...Jill
  20. Van graphics

Way too much space between Grace and center. The layout needs to be much tighter, and definitely a white outline where the blue is on the glass, or a lighter blue on all words. Love....Jill
