  1. Job Wages / Salary

Even that is not accurate. There are sign designers like a mom and pop slap vinyl on a panel, banner or car, then there are architectural/electrical/pylon sign people... Panel guy/girl is getting paid 12 an hour, pylon guy/girl may be getting paid 20-30... What type of shop was this?
  2. Job Wages / Salary

Did they say why they did not hire you? I always ask so that maybe I can make adjustments before my next interview. Almost every time they are very honest. By the way I went to Craigslist in the Seattle area, in the Seattle/Tahoma area alone there are about 10 sign jobs. Way more than my neck...
  3. Font check

House Industries - Tiki Type - Magic - it has been stretched about 150% The rest of the copy is the same, just not stretched...
  4. suggested mounting solutions for 1/2" routed PVC letters to one-shot painted MDO

Every time I have cut corners, I got bite in the buttock, I would add pins at the very least.
  5. For all you shops that bring the pooch to work

I wonder if it's the same one... this parrot belonged to my father-in-law, he found it at work, he moved in when he was dying so we could care for him, after he passed we got the birds. I guess he hated us that much...
  6. For all you shops that bring the pooch to work

I don't have a shop, but I have a chihuahua puppy and 2 parrots, the parrots are the problem... one's name is "Ponchito" and he will rattle off his name for hours, or he will squawk till they get my attention.
  7. Opinions on logo...

The ones on your website portfolio section.... That's how I learned, I collected and studied every detail drawing that came across my desk... then practiced drawing it in Illustrator.
  8. Opinions on logo...

Most people I know use a computer for attachment details, it's refreshing to see a hand scrawled detail... I am a sign designer, but all that means is 10% fun, and 90% getting it done. as you see on the image below. it took more work making the details to bid off of than designing a simple lobby...
  9. Opinions on logo...

I did a quick search on google for "precision logo" Lots of crosshair logos. the first idea is unreadable, I see you are already using the other idea. I would explore more options.. maybe do away with any graphic elements and try logotype only. I see you hand draw your design details, do you...
  10. Free Designs

ooops, I forgot to add.. You want to get into this type of design? This includes wayfinding, downtown signage improvements, and environmental graphics. I would look into going to a downtown association or organization as a start. In California, we have http://www.californiadowntown.com/.. in...
  11. Free Designs

Having worked on a few downtown city improvement projects and historic ones. I have never seen or read about free architectural or sign design. That facade and architectural design is done as part of the design package and then adopted, first by an organization business, then to the city. As...
  12. City Skylines

Goes to show how unimpressive our skyline is. I never would have guessed LA. It would probably help if the city hall building was in it since quite a few Angelinos view that as part of their identity or skyline. (it's the smaller building in the middle)
  13. Free Designs

Ah, there it is... but look at the trade off, "In return for financial assistance, property owners agree to let ESNDC review their selection of tenants for the next seven years."
  14. Free Designs

To me, I read they offer assistance, loans, money that is allocated for improvements... I can't find any reference to "free". What is the exact quote?
  15. ADA Signs on glass?

On rare occasions when I was working on higher end projects, I have called out metals, one in particular was pretty thick oil rubbed bronze that an architect insisted on, another was stainless with a light etch pattern. My favorite one was we proposed a photopolymer panel and reversed etched...
  16. My dream job...

Oh? I have been very lucky to work at 3 dream jobs, Dillon Works has always interested me since I met some of them at a sign show. It would be a big move for me but believe me, I'm giving it some thought.
  17. ADA Signs on glass?

I had to show this, this is from a high end apartment property at the fitness center somewhere in Minnesota. As you can see, lazy install... it should be obvious, use a backer or at least a clear tape, I see this a lot.
  18. ADA Signs on glass?

It is a "cosmetic ploy"... one I use, but I usually use vinyl, even with clear adhesive, the back of most ADA signs collect crap from spray happy cleaners or normal use, also, most signs are not finished enough to be presentable.
  19. ADA Signs on glass?

Odd question, is there some sort of ADA note you are referring too?
  20. My dream job...
