I need to make some isle marker signs for a drug store and it has 40 thou styrene panels that are supposed to be slid into "j track" to secure them yet allow them to swapped around if required.
It would be like Zip track bottom strip only smaller... I think.
Thanks Guys.
Marlene.... I haven't had anything in Signcraft for a while... good idea. I am sending in a picture to the local papers. Good story about the volunteers raising the funds etc.
Weasel, It took 6 sheets of HDU. I glued up 2 panels 12' x 65" ... one for the front, one for the back and sandwiched the 1.5" square tube frame between them. I used smaller pieces to fill in between the panels. The frame is "loose" inside so that when the sign expands in the sun it can get...
Check out the dude on the right side of the first picture. That gives you an idea of how big this sign is for a hand carved sign. This is the biggest one I've done so far. It's 12 feet wide and over five feet high.(the panel itself) It weighs a bit over 500 pounds.
It was a tough one to carve...
I'm leaving it straight Bob. You don't notice it in real life... it really stands out in that photo though. Must be the wide angle lens.
I thought gold would be a bit overpowering and was relieved when they went for the white lettering. I never showed them any versions with any more gold. I...
Here's a picture of the almost finished sign. The molding will be attached after it's on its posts. The thing weighs about 500 pounds so I don't want anyone trying to pick it up by the molding...
You got lucky. So did I... My finger power fed in so fast that when my hand hit the guard I was sure it broke my thumb, it hit that hard. Without the guard it would have power fed my hand into the thing. It took years before I could watch someone else use a jointer.
Drop kick to groin was a procedure I had to inflict on a volunteer during my second Dan test for Taekwondo. The victim(volunteer) was to attempt to stab me in the neck with a knife. ( I was playing the role of victim I suppose) The full counter attack was to:
"Grab arm with both hands, backhand...
Um... why not?
It got cut off in a wood working jointer about 25 years ago. I was working when I should have been sleeping.
I was looking for Moze's logo in post #22 per Gino (I can't see it) and noticed the words above the 1/2 finger. I'm surprised no one else noticed...
I saw the technique years ago in a woodworking book. It took quite a few passes because the saw blade won't cut below it's teeth. I had to do 1/8" at a time.
I glued up the blanks for the molding in "stair step" fashion so not as much had to be hogged out. I was surprised at how smooth it came...
Just finished making some big molding for a fairly large carved sign. I used a table saw to make the cove by running the molding sideways across the blade. The molding is 8" x 5". The long run is 11 feet and I knew I couldn't miter the ends with my bandsaw if they were that long so I broke it...
