I will go ahead and supply another one of my super secret tips. For squares you can typeset a lower case I in many fonts. Convert to paths, delete the long part of the I and just use the dot as a square. Be careful, some are rounded or rectangles and some are neither

Does anyone know if this is a freeware font and the name? I hate the free fonts since I cannot ID them and there are tons of them out there which makes them hard to find

Contour in Illy is called "offset path" in the menu object -> path -> offset path. Though in Illy you can only offset 1 at a time. If you want multiple outlines you can assign multiple outlines/strokes to 1 object in the appearance tab
