  1. Found an Incredible Squeegee - Cheap Wrap Tools

cool. its a lidco teflon squeegee with a ultrasuede felt edge. i have a bunch of lidco teflon squeegees and I like them. but I really, really like and am having an impossible time finding are the 6" silver lidco squeegees. they are my favorite to use with cut vinyl but they are hard to find.
  2. Does anyone recognize these samples?

yep. i stopped making carved signs in house a while ago. they do it better than I can.
  3. Where can I learn about the different use cases for substrates?

Nobody has mentioned going to a trade show? Go to a trade show and ask all the vendors about their materials. Get samples. Nobody taught me anything, I do a lot of investigating. I don't think it took too long to learn what and when to use different materials.
  4. Tired of HarborSales pushing things out.

I call in when something is out of stock. Sometimes its not their fault, they ordered it, but the supplier didn't ship on time. Or you can always ask them to drop ship it to you. I order from harbor 2-3 times a week, and I think I have an issue maybe once every six months (if that.)
  5. Question How many of you are running into commercial contractor license requirements to pull permits?

the only licence we've ever been asked for is if we do electrical. and we don't do any electrical so I hand that off to the client's electrician. we did get snagged once when we were subcontracting a rush job at a school. apparently in NJ there is a Public Works Contractor Licence that anyone...
  6. File Management

Thanks for the input. I need to clear my head and process everyone's suggestions. Hopefully we'll have it all cleared up by the weekend.
  7. Opinion Never really happened before to me.............

Also, did they place the exact same order twice? Because honestly, I'd realize this was a duplicate order and verify it prior to production. They made a mistake, but I'm not so hungry that I'd capitalize on it and risk losing a good client.
  8. Opinion Never really happened before to me.............

This is why I always send a proof prior to production. I don't do anything without a written OKAY. I'd be inclined to credit them back a % and say that this is a one time deal. I'd also make a note on their file to check for duplicate PO numbers.
  9. File Management

I should mention I'd like the flexibility of accessing files from off site. I don't often work from home, but that's only because I have to send files home and then back.
  10. File Management

How do you store your working files? We've always stored them on a local computer and backed up on a detached drive. We also have a cloud back up. I'm thinking of re-doing how and where we save our working files. I bought a new computer last week and I cannot connect to the folder where...
  11. 3m, Avery, Techwrap, Vvivid charging for sample books

i've never paid for a swatch book. either call the company directly or ask one of your distributors for one. Or go to a trade show.
  12. Warehouse Sign - How should I make it?

My client currently has a 6ftx15ft sign on the exterior of their warehouse space (corrugated aluminum siding). Its 25ft up, so we are just looking at it from the ground, and it appears to be an aluminum pan frame with aluminum faces. We need to either replace the faces, which I know how to do...
  13. Car magnets falling off when cold?

I'd never sell a magnet this big. If a customer insisted, I'd make sure they signed a disclaimer stating we are not responsible for failures.
  14. Dark/Navy Blue Prefinished panel

The powder coater near me can't really do 10ft (maybe yours can.) You might want to get a quote from Maaco or a body shop.
  15. Need Goosenecks for Post& Panel Sign

Do you know where I could find one? This was a quick illustration, the lights should be further away from the face and there will be 2 or 3 fixtures.
  16. Need Goosenecks for Post& Panel Sign

I have this idea to install goosenecks on the top of a post and panel sign... but i think I might be imagining this product. I've photoshopped the general idea of what i'm looking for. (this is the profile view) Am I crazy? Does something like this exist?
  17. Suggestions Painted Cinder Block Wall

i'm not sure about the vinyl to use, but i'd definitely stud-mount the lettering.
  18. What's better, screen printing or heat pressing shirts?

I order Silk Screen Transfers. Its plastisol (or other inks) screen printed onto a carrier sheet, that you then heat press onto your garment. You can order gang sheets, which makes short runs more economical. Its also great because you can order a dozen or so extra transfers to hold on to...
  19. Need Help Client requesting files

Everyone once in a while Gino, you make a good, clear point. Cheers. Yes, I agree with everything you said here. Great way to make the point on who has access to the files.
  20. Need Help Client requesting files

We don't do a lot of straight graphic design work. 99% of what we do ends up on a sign or other product we are supplying. If we design a logo and charge a fee for it, file transfer is part of the deal and is stated on the invoice.
