  1. Computer to show proofs

I have a tv monitor on the wall next to the front desk. I can't recall a time where it backfired. I use it mostly when I have a client who needs minor changes and its just easier for us to do them together. 95% of the time, we proof through shopvox. Or we use it when I've done tons of jobs for...
  2. Need Avery Medium Marine Gray Cast

Thanks! That makes sense. I have a color chart on order and your post makes a lot of sense now. I thought I saw Battleship in 950, but when I looked in my old book it was only in 700 so I thought I just read it wrong. I really wish manufacturers would send out new color charts before they pull...
  3. Need Avery Medium Marine Gray Cast

GRRRR. Avery and their discontinuing colors BS. There is a fleet we use Medium Marine Gray on, and the color is discontinued. I'm trying to see if a supplier has any left, and I've failed so far. I've checked Harbor, Fellers, Beacon, and Grimco. Where else should I look? If I can't get a...
  4. Installing Construction Fence Mesh

    thanks for the input!
  5. Installing Construction Fence Mesh

Hi, I have to quote an install for a construction fence windscreen, and we've never installed one before, but I can't imagine its hard. Anyway, its 6ft x 260ft on a chain link fence, is 12 man-hours a reasonable amount to charge? Also, best way to install is with zip ties, correct? Finally...
  6. Artwork release

if i have a line item charge for design, then i give them the file... a pdf & jpg. if i don't have a separate line item, I charge them for it.
  7. Laminator Issues

Are your rollers burnished? We noticed recently that the outer edges of the rollers were grippy-er than where the material feeds. I'm pretty sure the paper backing of the vinyl has ever so slightly buffed the rollers a bit. We just started installing the laminate roll an inch over from where we...
  8. How do you dress at work? Uniforms?

Gino, you are just so smart. You know literally everything about everything. How dare I make decisions that don't effect you or anyone else without your permission. Would you like me to send you all of my insurance policies to double check that I'm covered in the event of a catastrophe? What...
  9. How do you dress at work? Uniforms?

i specifically mentioned doing a vinyl window lettering job. sometimes they take all day. or a truck wrap, which usually does take all day. if someone twists their ankle installing a sticker on a door, they are a klutz and wearing boots isn't going to stop that. did you even see my original...
  10. How do you dress at work? Uniforms?

Gino, no matter what anyone says, you will ALWAYS find a way to disagree with them. A fresh xacto blade can cut through jeans. it can pierce through sneakers. I'm not going to require an employee to wear steel toe boots on a truck door lettering. Or any job that doesn't require power tools for...
  11. How do you dress at work? Uniforms?

it depends on the type of work you do. if we're digging holes, then yes, of course, wear protective gear. But for a window lettering that doesn't even require a ladder? In 100 degree heat? i'm flexible.
  12. Chrome Vinyl

we use R-tape brand, and it holds up well. That being said, it doesn't have a long life. We always tell our customers that it may fail within a short time period and its the risk they take when using it.
  13. Shipping Large Masked Graphics

yes, they have transfer tape on them. We use RTape 4075.
  14. Shipping Large Masked Graphics

we have provided thousands of yards of 48" paintmask to a client who installs gym floors. We just roll it up with the graphics side out and never had a problem. To clarify, we will stack many sheets on top of each other, then roll them up. The roll is usually about an 18" or so diameter.
  15. Question Alternates to ShopVox

i'm considering dropping the full version of shopvox and switching to just the job board and then using quickbooks directly for billing/ invoicing.
  16. Come on people, no more with backlit

For someone who doesn't typically design electrical signs, are there any "rules" you can think of that would help us make a better sign? I've ordered channel letters from wholesalers in the past, and they will just make what you send them, whether it will work or not. The first channel letter...
  17. Wrapping a trailer with... nothing

I'd use avery 750 easy apply. Its calendared with air release, and its awesome. I KNOW everyone says to never, ever use cal outdoors, but i have used avery 700/750 on tons of projects, and have never had a problem or failure. We have signs on the back of our shop that are 11 years old with the...

i dont' drop ship unless its a product and a vendor i know won't screw it up. i have like, one sign trade vendor I'd be willing to drop ship with. also, i have no problem with 4over, but I don't use them for signs. I make signs in house.
