  1. Need Help Where to find images etc for vehicle signage, help please

Yeah, we don't use templates either. But it only takes us a few minutes to get the info we need... We stick a 2"x12" magnet on the car, take a straight-on picture, and then scale it up. For hoods and rear windows we measure. I figured out the BEST way to scale stuff up using my magnet technique...
  2. Sign Installation Request from Out of State Sign Company

Make sure you are very clear in the scope of work. We recently did an install where they thought there was access between the facade and buidling, but there wasn't. The sign was made wrong and should have been on a raceway (like all the other signs in the plaza.) It took us a lot longer to...
  3. To use the www or not?

I do this in ALL layouts. I'd say about 25% of my clients make me change it to all lowercase. I don't fight them on it, because if they are too uneducated to realize that it works either way (it takes all of 3 seconds to test it yourself) I'm not getting paid enough to give them a basic...
  4. Sign Auction

Assorted Alcohol - Box of Lighters - Rack of CDs Those were my favorite items.
  5. track saw in a sign shop?

we have a track saw and use it all the time. Its way easier than using a circular saw and straight edge. Particularly if you are cutting down multiple sheets of material. Just make sure you have a wall at least 20' long or else you won't be able to rip 10' wide material.
  6. Question New and looking for advice

We can go 4-5 days (sometimes even more) without printing on our Mimaki CJV30-130 using eco solvent ink. When the waste bucket fills up, we just dump it in a box of kitty litter. I'm pretty sure we are still using the same box of litter that we started with 5 years ago. The only time we've ever...
  7. thoughts on non-oem ecosol ink?

interesting. i think we're going to stick with oem for the time being, but maybe we'll look into Nazdar later this year.
  8. thoughts on non-oem ecosol ink?

Thanks for the insight. I'm most likely going to stick with OEM. I figured if dozens of people said "switch to xyz brand, its awesome and saves money!" I'd do it. We broke a printhead using cheap banner material recommended to us by our N Glantz rep. He was like "Its so good! you have to try...
  9. thoughts on non-oem ecosol ink?

I do agree with everything you've said. And yes, its not a huge savings for us since our volume is relatively low. But it kills me every time I dish out all the loot on ink. I'd much rather spend $400 today than the $780 I need to replenish our stock. I know its small potatoes, but i have...
  10. thoughts on non-oem ecosol ink?

First of all, it costs about $130 for a cartridge of ink. My printer holds 8 cartridges at a time, so my cost is over $1000 to replace all ink. I'd save a few thousand a year switching to non-oem. Second, i'm not "cheaping out". I'm being a smart business owner. Who doesn't periodically look at...
  11. To laminate or not to laminate?

we have a chinese "cheap" laminator and its AWESOME. seriously, it works great. there are no bells or whistles to it, but as long as you load it properly, it works 100% of the time. I can't remember the brand, but I think I bought it on ebay. and yeah, everyone and their fancy pants will tell...
  12. thoughts on non-oem ecosol ink?

Our CJV30-130 is out of warranty at this point, so we are considering switching to non-oem ink. Has anyone switched with no issues? We were frightened into only using Mimaki ink when we bought our machine, but at this point, it kills me to drop so much loot on ink. What brands have you used...
  13. Need Help Custom Die Cut Business Cards?

I'd assume that any custom die cut card is going to be very pricey. I imagine in the $300 and up range due to the fabrication of dies.
  14. Help With Brother BusLines TypeFace PLEASE

    your link doesn't work
  15. Insurance is a P I T A

inquiring about a rider is what got us in this mess. "oh, you put stickers on cars? you're now classified as automotive services!"
  16. Insurance is a P I T A

I don't think it works this way. I actually asked about sub contracting out installs, and we'd have to prove the sub had adequate WC in order to not get charged for it. So if we sub an install to someone who is not required by law to carry it (sole propriety, for example) we'd be responsible for...
  17. Insurance is a P I T A

Thanks everyone. I'm calling around to get new quotes. A few things I've found out that really stink: 1. In NJ, everyone, including officers, need to be covered under workmans comp. But I'm going to make sure only my partner gets classified under the high risk category, since I never do installs...
  18. Insurance is a P I T A

I actually really like my SF agent, and they are trying to get me a better rate because they agree its insane. When he sent our policy to underwriting, they classified us as "automotive services" since we do vehicle graphics. Putting us in the same category as auto repair shops and quick lube...
  19. Insurance is a P I T A

All of our saws and power equipment is in a back room, our panel saw used to be out in the open but we moved it back a few years ago. I don't admit that we have that equipment, mostly because employees don't use them, and i'm not going to sue myself. I mean, actually, isn't covering owners on...
  20. Insurance is a P I T A
