  1. Question What is Competitive Pay for Various Positions

You guys make me want to move to america... Graphics design is $20-25 here. Production is around $15... Vinyl wrap around $20, printer operators around $17-20... Etc. Printer operators and vinyl wrappers shift to doing other end work when they're not busy also. Living in Vancouver...

  3. Wrap installers - what ink do you prefer?

We do latex and ecosolvent. We have UV... But I can't imagine doing a wrap in UV. Maybe the roll to roll uvs are different, but oir UV ink isn't stretchable at all, and it's thick.. you can't overlam it with roll based overlam without there being edging, and if you bend the ink too much it'll...
  4. Suggestions Vinyl which is pen writable on it

Anything matte should work. Never tried with orafol since we don't use it much... But when a customer needs it to be writable we've used 3 different matte materials, and even matte overlam and it's all been writable. For the best results... You'll need a paper product instead of a vinyl. Again...
  5. Question looking for advice for a first time digital printer purchase

I'm going to presume it's because we went off topic... But I didn't get flagged, so who knows. Anyways, to get back on topic... Here's the latest picture of them being "joined". I may be wrong, but I could have sworn when they first announced it it tucked under the machine... Not just sat back...
  6. Question looking for advice for a first time digital printer purchase

I print for them at ink cost + a few cents wear and tear. I'm sure to you that makes me a clown. I am devoted to them, and want them to succeed. They take care of me, so when I'm able to, I take care of them. But no - I bought one because I wanted to play with latex. I was able to because they...
  7. Question looking for advice for a first time digital printer purchase

If my boss gave me a .05 raise I'd probably quit. Yes, I put a graphtec in the basement - printer/laminator in my workshop. My boss loves it, as they outsource a lot of stuff to me for cheaper than they could elsewhere, and gives them more options for printing on material our ecosolvent/UV...
  8. Question looking for advice for a first time digital printer purchase

I got free training and free freight. Anything over 1k is free freight here... Might be more if you have no local grimco/ndgraphics. You can setup the 115 and the cutter yourself. Takes half a day... I setup my own cutter because I wanted it downstairs, it's as easy as screwing a couple bolts...
  9. Question looking for advice for a first time digital printer purchase

Looking it up, looks like I was wrong. I know when it was first coming out, they showed them fitting together and touted them as using the same space as rolands printer because of it... I guess they changed that!
  10. Question looking for advice for a first time digital printer purchase

The latex bundles have a cutter. Its not built.in... but it fits behind / in the machine in a way so it doesn't take up much space . I never understood the print/cut in one machines... 99% of what I do gets laminated. I'd rather they be seperate!
  11. Question looking for advice for a first time digital printer purchase

It was $13,000 in March. Pretty much every month it's on special... Just wait a few weeks and it'll go down to 13 again. 8 inks at $100 an ink is $800... And the feed roller is $1000 last I checked . So 14.8k if you wait. .
  12. Question looking for advice for a first time digital printer purchase

The smells get pretty bad at times .we have two huge exhausts hooked up to our printer, and we can still smell it .Does the basement have windows, or some other way to vent/air it out? If so you might be ok. Its not just the bad smell... The fumes are toxic. Lots of people have been around...
  13. Question looking for advice for a first time digital printer purchase

As you've noticed... You're going to get a recommendation on every type of printer/size. People tend to recommend the machine they purchased.. .Because that machine is whats best for them. Instead, you need to look at the pros and cons of each printer, and type. You looked into thermal printing...
  14. Onyx postershop 11 Web Portal

Not just thrive! But the web portal sucks. All you can do is basic stuff... Upload a file, Rip it, then add very basic stuff... Can't so color changing, crop or nothing in reg version... Its not worth using .we only tried it out to test if we could use onyx for our screen film printer that's...
  15. Installing graphics on glass

1 - people get caught up in the cast vs calandered debate. For flat surfaces calandered is ok. Its not as conformable as cast, so it's not always good... But using a good calandered such as 3ms ij40, it's rated at 7 (maybe 5?)years, and will work perfectly. A $100 mono calandered will fail in...
  16. HP Latex dealer in Canada

I was paying $130 per set of ink off their website. Bought about 25 sets .Then I had to email my rep because they sent me M instead of LM... Got a reply saying he noticed I'm paying too much for ink, and from now on it'll be substantially cheaper, that they dropped the price. I login.. and ink...
  17. HP Latex dealer in Canada

Tell ndgraphics to price match grimco and they might. They both give discounts based on volume of sales... If they have a chance to win you over to then, they may match grimco .Never hurts to ask.
  18. HP Latex dealer in Canada

I prefer grimco to ndgraphics... Grimco specializes in hp printers, so their techs are great if anything goes wrong. Where are you located? Even if I hated a vendor, if they were the closest and the other was an hour+ away... I'd go with the vendor I hated. If something breaks.. you don't...
  19. Is there a latex respirator anyone can recommend?

Being harmful, and being irritating doesn't always fall under the same Category. Some people are sensitive to latex... Just like some people have Allergies. The smell could be causing problems. I would call 3M And ask them. Odds are any of their filters would work... I'd buy one with...
  20. Onyx 18

Yup, thats the problem. Back when we first got our I1 I did a lot of reading. Most of our profiles are just print and scans... I made a profile that gets good neutral greys by adjusting the starting black. I think our profiles are "OK", but of course I'd like to get them perfect! Pretty much...
